From Introduction "Christian County had published a county history in 1841 by Perrin and again another by Charles Meachem in 1930. Both of these histories had a limited biography section in them. Under the leadership of president Lon Bostick the Genealogical Society of Christian County and the many devoted people of the county at large gave untiringly of their time and knowledge to compile and have published a third history of Christian County in 1986 which is primarily a family history with much social history. The people responded well with material and the book was getting so large that we had to stop receiving family histories. This left many without the opportunity to get their families recorded. Late in 1990 Lon had a job started and was not complete therefore the Odd Fellows of Green River Lodge #54 of Hopkinsville and Jewel Rebekah Lodge #14 the auxiliary of the Odd Fellows met and voted to compile and have published a continuation of Volume I of the Family Histories. ‎Antverpiae: Christophori Plantini. Good. 1571. First Edition. Hardcover. This is a nice clear example of early printing from the famous Plantinian press. Chriophori Plantini 1520 - 1589 was a well-known French printer and publisher who lived and worked in Amsterdam. He is perhaps the most famous printer of this era. The buildings housing the famous press are still in existence and are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This book contains three separate works in one volume with separate title pages for each part. Plantini's distinctive printer's mark is on each title page. Pagination for the three parts-- I: 353 7 pp. II: 80 4 pp. III: 29 3 pp. The binding is full leather with gilt decoration on the front and rear and each cover has a gilt rule along the edges. The covers are both detached and the 4 cords have broken. The leather hubbed spine is missing a portion at the top and chipped at the bottom. This appearst to be a later binding for the book. The pages are generally clear and clean though there is a small worm hole at the top corner of the first 40 pages There is a triangular booklate on the front paste down with the printed name: "Roy A. Tower;" the rear end paper also has a bookplate showing a rat eating a book. There are also couple of old names in ink in an old hand on the front end paper. Sold with all faults. This appears to be the earliest edition of this book from Plantin's press in Amsterdam. Please inquire if you would like more information about this early Plantin press publication.
