Litografia a colori, finemente acquarellata in epoca, tratta dalla rara Iconografia dell'avifauna italica, ovvero, Tavole illustranti le specie di uccelli che trovansi in Italia: con brevi descrizioni e note / testo del dott. Enrico Hillyer Giglioli; tavole di Alberto Manzella, edita a Prato prima e a Firenze poi tra il 1878 ed il 1882. Nel 1876 Enrico Hillyer Giglioli, professore di zoologia e anatomia comparata, pubblica, presso il Museo di storia Naturale di Firenze, la Collezione Centrale degli Animali Vertebrati Italiani, raccolta che ha fortemente influenzato la sua produzione scientifica. In particolare, la sezione ornitologica è stata oggetto di numerosi e importanti lavori che documentano l’immagine che gli studiosi avevano di queste specie alle soglie del Novecento.Giglioli inizia a lavorare sull’Iconografia della Avifauna Italica nel 1879, un ambizioso ma incompiuto programma editoriale che si poneva come scopo la rappresentazione dal vero di tutte le specie di uccelli della fauna italiana. L’opera doveva essere pubblicata in circa ottanta fascicoli mensili di cui hanno visto la luce cinquantaquattro, ognuno corredato di cinque litografie, ricavate dalle tavole, disegnate e colorate a mano da Alberto Manzella.
