Florida Birds; Sprunt Jr. DSc. Alexander D. Sc
FLORIDA BIRD LIFE
New York: Coward-McCann Inc. and the Natioinal Audubon Society 1954. First Edition. Beautifully illustrated throughout with colour plates from the original paintings by Francis Lee Jaques and Jon Henry Dick. There are 56 colour plates and 65 additional illustrations within the text as well as a regional map of Florida. Royal thick 8vo publisher's original turquoise blue cloth the upper cover and spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Spine panel and upper cover of the dustjacket preserved at the front end leaves. xlii 2 527 pp. A fine and handsome copy very well preserved indeed. FIRST EDITION OF THIS VERY IMPORTANT WORK. Until Mr. Sprunt produced this fine work by reviewing and correlating the literature and field records of the years between 1932 and 1954 no great work on Florida birds had been produced since that of Arthur Howell's. This is the first important addition to the body of literature available at the time and remains an important book to this day. The colourplates are very well produced and printed and there are a profusion of them. Additionally the textual illustrations are many and varied and extremely useful to the birding enthusiast. A fine work. Coward-McCann, Inc. and the Natioinal Audubon Society hardcover
