Bound in half vellum and marbled paper-covered boards with gilt lettering. Second edition. The front hinge has been professionally repaired. This book contains excerpts from good selection of Englishcontemporaries of Shakespeareincluding Christopher Marlowe John Fletcher Francis Beaumont John Webster and Benjamin Jonson amongst many others. Charles Lamb 1775 1834 was a British poet and essayist best known for his Essays of Elia and for the children's book Tales from Shakespeare which he produced with his sister Mary. Both Charles and Mary enjoyed an active and rich social life. Their London quarters became a weekly salon for many of the most outstanding theatrical and literary figures of the day including Wordsworth and Coleridge. Charles Lamb having been to school with Samuel Coleridge counted Coleridge as perhaps his closest and certainly his oldest friend. Condition: The binding is tight and firm. There has been a professional repair to the front hinge. There is some wear to the extremities including some rubbing and bumping. There issomediscolouration to the vellum which could be cleaned.
