A Concise Abstract of the Most Important Clauses in the Following Interesting Acts of Parliament passed in the Session of 1784 . By A Gentleman of the Inner-Temple
London: Printed for J. Walker 1784. 92 pp. 8vo. Stitched as issued. Stitching lacking loosening gatherings some light spotting or soiling of front and back leaves and general edgewear else a very good copy. A contemporary owner has annotated and underlined several sections in the Tea Act. 92 pp. 8vo. These acts passed that years were seen by the author as being the most pertinent and so included in this work the rest of the acts of Parliament were to be released shortly thereafter in a second part.<br /> <br /> The acts abstracted were the 1 Tea and Window repealing the several Duties and for granting other duties in lieu and duties on coffee and cocoa nuts Act 2 The Game Act hunting license 3 The Horse Act granting duties on riding and carriage horses 4 The Postage Act increasing postage rates 5 The Pawn Broker's Act trying to reduce the handling of stolen goods 6 The Soap and Starch Act requiring the licensing of makers of starch and instilling new laws on soapmakers 7 The Cotton and Linen Act placing duties 8 The Hatter's Act requiring licenses laying additional duties on imported hats 9 The Excise Goods Act laying duties upon licences to be taken out by the makers and delers in exciseable commodities 10 The Candle Act cancelling the duty on wax candles made in Britain 11 The Distillery Act trying to discourage home distillation by discontinuing the duties uon low wines and spirits for home consumption. 12 The Hackney Coach Act increasing the charge for Hackey license 13 The Smuggling Act trying to prevent 14 Brick and Tile Act placing duties on brick and tile made in Great Britain and additional duties on those imported 15 Wax Candle Act placing additional duties on all candles except wax and spermaceti candles. One of 50 copie This is a handsome book with the text of the Christmas story written in the calligraphy of Michael Renton who also drew different rococo borders for each page. There are also six miniatures adapted by Renton from a fifteenth centu Dutch Passionale. The whole was printed on dampened Barcham Green Bodleian Repairing paper by George Mackley. There is very light wear to the extremiti of the spine on this fragile binding else a very good copy. Very uncommon this English private press of the 'sixties--which also used the imprint of Th Two Colt Press. unknown

Reliure plein cuir ancienne très abimée, gondolée, tachée, salie, frottée, rayée, quelques mouillures, pliures, accrocs, manques, mors frottés, charnières presque cassées (donc reliure presque détachée du texte), un plat se replie mal. Reliure fragile, exemplaire pas loin d'être dérelié, des feuillets détachés ou presque détachés. Papier un peu jauni, gondolé voire fripé, contours un peu brunis, des salissures, taches dont d'encre, rousseurs et mouillures, marques d'encre, pliures, accrocs, déchirures et manques de papier à plusieurs pages sans atteinte au texte, galeries de vers avec parfois perte partielle de plusieurs lettres aisément recomposables, des feuillets déboîtés, gribouillages à l'encre sur la dernière page de la seconde partie. Tranches rouge/bordeaux aux couleurs partiellement effacées, tachées, salies, frottées, mouillures.

Lists the entries in almost 130 classes which emphasize driving. Occasional results penciled in H.L. de Bussigny won the High School class. The overall categories with judges listed were Trotters Roadsters and Road Rigs; Hackneys Half-Bred Hackneys and Coach Horses; Ponies in Harness Pony Stallions and Pony Brood Mares; Four-in-Hands Tandems Harness Horses Carriages and Appointments Horses and Hansom Cabs and Driving Competition; Saddle and Police Horses Ponies under Saddle and High School Horses; Heavy Draught Horses; Polo Ponies; Hunters and Jumpers; and Military Riding. With a long index of the exhibitors their addresses and the classes they entered. Many old Boston families are represented--Higginson Lawson Peabody Forbes Thayer Appleton etc. With many ads for horses stable equipment and local businesses. A great piece of horse show history! Sample book of harness designs and other elaborate and decorative carriage horse tack.
Vienna 1800. Oblong small folio 23.5 x 37 cm and 25.5 x 39.5 cm. Volume 1 stab-sewn volume 2 with the leaves mounted on stubs and sewn through the folds each with blue shell-marbled paper wrapped around the spine. In an early 19th-century half tanned sheepskin box in the form of a book Stormont marbled sides metal hook-clasps. With 67 pen-and-ink watercolour and gouache drawings of horses plus stubs of 5 more numbered 1-54 and 75-87 including 1 folding most highlighted with silver and gold all signed each within a black ruled border most trimmed and mounted on blank leaves ca. 1805. With 2 etchings added at the end of volume 1 executed by Friedrich Leopold Bürde and dated 1812. 2 volumes. Unique harness maker's colour-drawn sample book with each drawing depicting a horse in elaborate carriage horse tack. The drawings were executed by Michael Fölsch himself one of the foremost Viennese makers and sellers of luxury tack in the early 19th century to show prospective clients possible designs for their carriage horses. Each drawing is signed by Fölsch as artist. His talent for draughtsmanship and colouring was hitherto unknown and is remarkable for a leather craftsman who probably never received training as a painter. The variety and complexity of the designs and the use of gold and silver is impressive suggesting that such bespoke equipment was intended for the wealthy elite.From the equestrian library of the Imperial stable master Franz Wenzel Schleichart von Wiesenthal ca. 1730-post 1800 with his engraved armorial bookplate upside down on the back of the box. He was a leading figure in a great dynasty of stable masters and horse breakers. Thereafter in the collection of Franz Josef II Fürst von und zu Liechtenstein 1906-1989.With only stubs for 5 of what would have been 72 leaves. A few leaves had torn or nearly torn before they were mounted ca. 1805 but most are in very good condition and the mounting has preserved and protected those that had been damaged. The drawings were clearly made for daily use and show occasional dirt small stains spots or other minor blemishes. ABE CAT Art History hardcover
