Bound in full tree calf. Two volume complete set. Illustrated with an engraved title page monochrome frontispieces and forty copper engraved plates to 'Volume I' and sixty-seven to 'Volume II' including three folding plates with two being the rare folding plates of snakes. Collated complete. Includes the two rare and often missing folding plates of snakes which depict a common Viper 'Esculapian serpent' and the rattle snake. This popular and influential work on Natural History was written by Georges Louis Leclerc Comte de Buffon a French naturalist.
