Nicolas Where Have You Been
New York: Alfred A. Knopf 1987. Unpaginated picture book backed in red cloth with silver lettering tan paper-covered boards stamped with image of a little mouse carrying a berry. Front cover is quite presentable with moderate corner bumps and minimal edgewear; rear cover has a significant scrape to bottom edge repaired with library tape. Front endpaper removed by library upon deaccession; clean aside from few library inkstamps; tight binding; light fingering to pages; one short page-turning tear. Dust jacket is price-clipped shows minor discolouration and light edgewear but quite presentable with no spine label. Altogether a highly satisfactory reading copy. LEARNING TO FLY A Season with the Peregrine Falcon
Chapel Hill NC: Angonquin Books. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. 1989. Hardcover. 0945575157; Binding DJ and Contents are almost like new. ; Light tan cloth brown lettering. Glossary. Notes. Bibliography. NATURE. Liotta spends a season helping peregrine falcons learn to fly. Observing how the forces of fear and inertia work against the young birds he reflects on the often painful contradictions that have kept hs own life sadly earthbound. He is a naturalist who craves the solitude of the wild yet a husband whose love for his wife is central to his being. Untimately as the wilderness takes hold and reveals its secrets and as the young falcons learn to ride the air currents of theAdirondacks and assume their natural role Liotta discovers a sense of balance and strength that can enable his own spirit to soar. Drawing from literature philosophy myth legend falcon lore and aerodynamic theory Liotta writes lyrically about man and nature and offers a remarkable investigation of the mysteries and meaning of flight. ; 9-1/4" Tall; 201 pages .
