V, 388; MNE II, 341. - Enthält neben den Abhandlungen über die Amputation in den Gelenken und über die Heilkraft des Quecksilbers beim Starrkrampf zwei Aufsätze zur Augenheilkunde.- Philipp Franz von Walther (1782-1849) studierte in Heidelberg und Wien, war Schüler von Beer und wurde 1803 Professor der Physiologie und Chirurgie an der Universität in Landshut. Seine Werke sind für die Geschichte der Chirurgie und Augenheilkunde von bleibender Bedeutung.‎

"Otto Heinrich Warburg (* 1883 in Freiburg im Breisgau; † 1970 in West-Berlin) war ein deutscher Biochemiker, Arzt und Physiologe. 1931 erhielt er für „die Entdeckung der Natur und der Funktion des Atmungsferments“ den Nobelpreis für Physiologie oder Medizin." (Wikipedia). Der Autor war derzeit Direktor des Kaiser-Wilhelm-Instituts für Zellphysiologie und hat (laut Vorwort Mai 1948) seine verstreut erschienenen Arbeiten zum Thema aus der Zeit 1932-1948 in diesem Band veröffentlicht. ‎Erste Ausgabe. - "The most important contemporary study of the physiology of motion and locomotion" (Garrison/Morton 604). - "The Weber brother's work in physiology marked the beginning of a new era of physico-mathematical study. The 'Mechanik' contains an anatomical discussion of the joints used in walking and running, measurements made on living subjects, and a mathematical theory relating the length and duration of a step to anatomical parameters... Among other results, the work corrected misconceptions about posture and recommended its conclusions to the attention to artists. The introduction suggests the development of a walking machine for traversing rough terrain. Probably unique in the annals of anatomical illustration are the four plates printed directly from the original bones. These were printed using sectioned bone specimens encased in plaster of Paris with their muscles and ligaments still attached in order to maintain their original positioning; the prints were then taken off in the manner of a woodcut" (Roberts & Trent, Bibliotheca mechanica, S. 349 f.). - "Die Brüder Eduard und Wilhelm Weber verfolgten einen rein physikalischen Ansatz bei der Erforschung der 'menschlichen Gehwerkzeuge'.
