T. C. HODSON
THE NÀGA TRIBES OF MANIPUR
About the Book:- In this volume it is proposed to describe the ethnology of the tribes inhabiting the hills which in point of area form the greater part of the state of Manipur. The state lies between latitude 23°50’ and 25°30 North longitude 93°10’ and 94°30’ East and Contain about 8,000 square miles of which 7,000 square miles are hill territory as opposed to the vallely territory and are inhabited by Naga and Kuki tribes, hill people, who number slightly more than 100,000, while accepting with due reserve the familiar distinction between Nagas and Kukis, it may be pointed out that the tribes commonly classed together as Naga and Kuki occupy definite areas in these hills. About the Author: Thomas Callan Hodson (1871–1953) was the first William Wyse Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge, where he was a Fellow of St Catharine's College, notable for his writings on Indian anthropology and for coining the term sociolinguistics. In Analysis of the 1931 Census of India (Government of India Press, 1937) Hodson analysed the physical types in India, in great detail, adopting the models dominant in his day. This analysis was independent of the castes, and Brahmins and Dalits were classified in the same "racial groups". For example, Telugu Brahmins and Chamars were classified as "Racial Element A". In total, he distinguished seven "racial elements", from A to G. Hodson used the classical "brachycephalic" and "dolichocephalic" terminology in force in racial discourses of the day. This was a typology constructed from the so-called "cephalic index" (the ratio of the maximum width of the head to its maximum length) and to classify human populations according to this purported scientific measure. T. E Burman, M. D. Meyerson, L. Shopkow (eds.)
Religion, Text, and Society in Medieval Spain and Northern Europe Essays in Honor of J.N. Hillgarth
Hardback, XX+373 p., 15 x 23. ISBN 9780888448163. The scholarship of Jocelyn Nigel Hillgarth touches the whole history of medieval Spain, the history of Christianity and its institutional practices, and the medieval intellectual achievement. The essays by students and friends gathered here honour the remarkable reach of that lifework and the sympathies in which it remains rooted. Essays by David Abulafia, Anthony Bonner, Harvey Hames, and Charles H. Lohr explore the writings of the Majorcan scholastic, reformer and missionary, Ramon Lull. The broader history of Spain may be found in Jacques Fontaine's consideration of the eponymous founder of Spain, Hispalus; in Manuel C. Diaz y Diaz's discussion of royal liturgy in Visigothic Spain; in Lucy K. Pick's examination of the tenth-century queen-regent of Leon, Elvira; and in Mark Meyerson's exploration of the fate of the Jews of Morvedre (Sagunto) in 1348. Other papers study the complex interaction between the institutional structures of the church and the spirit that animated them: Clarissa Atkinson compares the biographies of Anselm of Canterbury and Christina of Markyate to uncover differing sources of authority. Giles Constable argues that the various historical and legendary lives of Odo Arpinus - nobleman, Cluniac prior, and crusader in Old French epic - reveal an underlying coherence. In a study of Dubrovnik's Dalmatian martyrs, Richard Gyug shows how ecclesiastical politics as well as economic and religious rivalry work to determine the structures of civic identity. Phyllis Pobst examines the archbishop Eudes Rigaud's record of his visitations in the diocese of Rouen, and William Lundell studies the response of the Carthusian order in the face of schism. Texts lie at the heart of a concluding group of four essays: the writings of John Cassian on the relationship of the eremitic and cenobitic lives in Stephen Driver's work; the Norman history of Dudo of St-Quentin in Leah Shupkow's essay; the translation of philosophical texts into architectures of stone at Chartres in Edouard Jeauneau's article; and the Christian use of Muslim commentaries on the Latin translations of the Qur'an in Thomas E. Burman's paper. Languages : English.

Taccone Antonio
Repressione sociale dell'erotismo: radici, conseguenze, prospettive

Castiglion Fiorentino, a significant settlement located in the south-eastern part of Tuscany, presented during the mid and early Middle Ages features such as institutional architecture, social articulations and economic connotations similar in various aspects to those of other communities in the same region. Within this context it emerged as an exemplary model of a minor Medieval centre. At the same time, its peculiar political events ? at one point under Arezzo?s rule and later under Perugian rule ? make Castiglion Fiorentino a particularly interesting object of study by its own accord. 766 gr. xiv-408 p.

Taddei, Ilaria
Fanciulli e giovani.
During the 15th century in Florence, civil and religious authorities started to give more attention to issues of infancy and childhood, and were showing a greater awareness to differences between age groups. In this social environment confraternities of children, adolescents and older youth came into being. These associations, heterogeneous in terms of social class, were not only set up to give religious instruction but became one of the principle forums for the development of male identity. 612 gr. vi-372 p.
