AS issued in bonded leather of boards with the Strother family arms in gilt on the front cover. Leather is heavily worn and chipped on the front board with batting that the lines the boards exposed; there is some loss to the leather; leather at the spine is brittle and cracking; this all comprises cosmetic damage as the binding remains fairly solid; contents clean. <br /> <br /> A remarkably uncommon and once attractive production with 3 full page photographs tipped in each with a tissue guard. In addition to the short narrative history and genealogical diagrams there are several pages at the end with facsimiles of events from a family Bible. As is so often the case with privately printed family histories this is rare in commerce and only one institution reporting ownership according to OCLC. Garrett & Massie unknown‎

Half brown cloth and morocco gilt-stamped lettering on spine; oblong Folio; with 15 signed pencil drawings on paper about 315x485 mm each mounted on heavy cardstock with caption handwritten in French in ink in lower margin of mount. Circa 1800 with hand-lettered title-page indicating that this collection was mounted and bound in 1930. Cloth blistered; drawing paper a bit toned with some faint foxing here and there. <br/><br/>These extraordinary historical scenes by Chatillon trace the births deaths marriages and battles of the Earls of Shrewsbury from the First Earl John Talbot 1390-1453 an important English military commander during the Hundred Years War to Francis Talbot 1623-1667 the 11th Earl who met his more scandalous end in a duel with the Second Duke of Buckingham. John Talbot distinguished himself for his bravery in battle and is believed to have fought alongside Henry IV in the famous Battle of Shrewsbury 1403 in which King Henry IV defeated a rebel army led by Henry "Hotspur" Percy from Northumberland. The battle serves as the climax for William Shakespeare's "Henry IV Part One" and John Talbot appears with speaking lines in "Henry VI Part One." The Countess of Auvergne remarks of him "Is this the scourge of France / Is this the Talbot so much feared abroad / That with his name the mothers still their babes" The Battle of Shrewsbury is also the first in which English archers fought each other on English soil and archers are featured in the battle scenes illustrated here -- alongside armored horses waving flags the stern expressions of the valiant and the agonized faces of the wounded. The scope and intricacy of these drawings is difficult to capture with language -- no detail is left unrecorded from the coat of arms on a shield to the embroidery on a wedding dress the vaulted arches of a church the sinews of dog the teeth of horse gnashing its bit. Early half calf and marbled papered boards all edges and endpapers marbled with the spine extensively gilt-decorated in compartments with a contrasting title-label; leather a little rubbed at the extremities and bumped at the corners; marbled paper moderately rubbed and worn along the edges with slight loss to the rear cover; early leaves slightly marked; a binder's blank at the rear has an internal tear; overall a very presentable copy. The initial binder's blank is inscribed 'To Mrs Tennant With Mary Gardner's Kindest Love. North Terrace. 28 Augst 1862'. With more than a little help from the 'Australian Dictionary of Biography' we have discovered this was a wedding present. On that day Rachael Christina Ferguson married a young Andrew Tennant 1835-1913 pastoralist and politician Tennant Creek is named after his father. One of their daughters Rosina Forsyth Tennant married the pastoralist William Tennant Mortlock yes genealogy is sometimes confusing. One of their children was John Andrew Tennant Mortlock 1894-1950 pastoralist and philanthropist. He was the State Library of South Australia's most significant benefactor and the Mortlock Wing is named after him. James Blackwood hardcover‎

‎Annotated Vernacular Photograph Album Centering on the Schuler Family of Texas and New Jersey‎

‎Various locations in Texas and New Jersey 1922. Very good. 49 leaves illustrated with 352 black-and-white or sepia-toned photographs between 1.75 x 2.5 and 8 x 10 inches in mounting corners or glued down almost all annotated in ink with the name of the subject the date and sometimes the location. Oblong folio. Contemporary plain brown pebbled cloth photograph album. Minor wear to extremities light dust-soiling to boards. Numerous empty mounts throughout but the 350 remaining photographs are generally well preserved. A large annotated vernacular photograph album containing over 350 pictures most of which relate to the Schuler family who split their time between Texas and New Jersey. The pictures capture family members and numerous friends of all ages and at various activities such as the celebration of holidays like Easter and Christmas enjoying the beach in Galveston posed with their automobiles raising children at childrens' party and fishing at Lake Worth among other settings. Identified family members and friends hail from numerous Texas towns such as Fort Worth Houston Dallas Big Spring El Paso and the aforementioned Galveston and Lake Worth. Most of the New Jersey pictures emanate from Trenton. A handful of images also picture people in Pennsylvania.<br /> <br /> The sheer number of identified subjects from the Schuler and many other families provides ample opportunity for cross-referencing geneaological information for Texas and New Jersey families in the Schuler orbit in the early 20th century. Several of the more interesting photographs capture the construction of the Universal Tire & Rubber Company in Houston. Some images relate to World War I including Joseph and Fred Schuler posed in uniform a shot of "Fred and two of his buddies taken on the transport on his way home 1918" and ten pictures from a parade celebrating the 36th Division in Fort Worth in 1918. A few photographs depict the "Interior view of Our Home Houston Heights 1918." An interesting family photo album offering a glimpse into the growth of a large family depicting some individuals growing older over the years encompassed by the album. unknown‎

Working copy belonging to crew member Selig "Pinky" Frank with his manuscript pencil annotations throughout. Bound in before the script are several production documents many with Frank's manuscript ink and pencil annotations including several shooting schedules cast and crew lists and contact information and a brief performance rundown. <br /> <br /> An hourlong country music special hosted by Kris Kristofferson held in memory of folk music legend Maybelle Carter who sang with her sister-in-law Sara Carter and Sara's husband A.P. Carter as The Carter Family. All three were born and raised in southwest Virginia and were the first vocal group to become country music stars. Maybelle Carter's distinctive method of playing guitar known as the "Carter Scratch" became a hallmark of the group's style and was widely copied in later roots gospel bluegrass and country music. <br /> <br /> Housed in a brown titled three-ring binder noted as MASTER with the name of Selig Frank on the bottom right corner. ‎Nouméa : printer unknown 1917. Letter sheet with black mourning borders; bifolium folding to 130 x 200 mm 260 x 400 mm when opened; first side with lithographically printed notice of the death of Pierre-Auguste Thevenet on 5 November 1917 and his burial on 6 November with above it a list of the bereaved family members and friends on whose behalf the letter sheet was printed; inner sides blank; designed for mailing the outer side with the handwritten address 'Monsieur A. Zeitler Api Nouvelles Hébrides' postage stamp removed and a folding flap to close the envelope; in fine condition. A striking piece of mourning memorabilia produced in a French colonial context but also with a double connection to Australia. Pierre-Auguste Thevenet was born in Lyon France on 1 November 1847 to Jean Pierre Francois Thevenet and Pauline Claudine Perrin. After settling in New Caledonia he married Australian woman Harriette Whiteman who was born at Patrick Plains Singleton New South Wales in 1852 and died in 1935. The couple had seven children. Pierre-Auguste passed away on 5 November 1917 in Nouméa. The addressee Adolphus Zeitler was a wealthy merchant who owned a plantation at Ringdove Bay on the island of Epi Api in the New Hebrides. He had emigrated with his family from Germany to New South Wales via California in the 1850s. He was married to an Australian woman Lizzie MacLeod. unknown‎
