Illustrator: Norman Rockwell. introduction by Van Wyck Brooks publisher's note a note on the text translations of foreign aphorisms and notes. Pale yellow coloured endpapers. The text is illustrated with six full-page 2 double page illustrations by Norman Rockwell and numerous small black-and-white illustrations. 1/4 dark brown cloth spine with silver coloured titles and 3/4 light green boards with self embossed titles. Illustrated dustwrapper again by Norman Rockwell with pale yellow coloured background and blue coloured titles to the front panel and blue and black coloured titles to the back strip. A reproduction of the American man of letters -- Benjamin Franklin -- almanac that he produced during the years of 1733-1758. The full title of the book is: -- " Poor Richard : The Almanacks for the Years 1733-1758 by Richard Saunders Philom. Wherein are retain'd in their Entirety the Author's Prefaces Proverbs Verses & entertaining Remarks; Together with those Chronological HIstorical and Scientific Observations which the Author has illumin'd with his characteristic Wit & Wisdom. Now containing an introduction by ; and embellish'd with illustrations by Norman Rockwell. Bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine and to the lower book corners. Shelfwear to the lower edges and there are a few marks to the top. Dust marks to the top paper edge and browning to the other edges. The endpapers have grubby marks and the first 3.25 " of the free front endpaper has become somewhat darkened. There is a little staining to the back book panel at the top. The paper which the book has been printed on is of a slightly yellow hue. The dustwrapper is somewhat rubbed and faded the peculiarly the spine. Rubbing and slight chipping to the dustwrapper corners and there is three small chips to the top rear dustwrapper panel. There is stain that runs the full-length of the top back panel to a depth of 0.5 ". There is some lifting of the laminate of the lower front dustwrapper edge and there are two tears measuring 0.25 ". A small tear to the lower front fold over crease has been the head with tape tape still in situ. The stain on the top back dustwrapper edges is also visible on the verso of the dustwrapper. There are a few grubby marks as well. Size: Folio over 12" tall . XIV 302 pages last 2 blank . The spine of the jacket has lost colour. Please refer to accompanying picture s. Notre titre paru pour la première fois en 1904 et obtint le second prix Goncourt à la même année. Il fut également mis en scène pour le théâtre et porté à l'écran. Robert Wehrlin (1903 - 1964) est un peintre suisse classé dans la "mouvance" de l'Ecole de Paris. Il est très connu en Suisse pour la réalisation d'œuvres monumentales tels vitraux, décorations murales et tapisseries. Il réalisa en plus de nombreuses affiches. Très beau papier Renage, de la ville du même nom dans l'Iséres (à 30 km de Grenable); il s'agit d'un papier vélin crème très agréable. Très bon état malgré quelques feuilles légèrement "ondulées" par l'humidité mais sans présente de mouillures.

There are 34 coloured plates taken from all ages of artists work and numerous black and white line illustrations and sketches within the text. Grey coloured boards with a facsimile of Dobell's signature in white on front panel and white coloured titles to the backstrip. Photographic dustwrapper a colour photograph of William Dobell with white coloured background with blue and black coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. Before his sudden death William Dobell agreed to tape record a series of conversations with the author of this book. It is in fact a study of a artist 'at work' "discussing how is how he works what he is trying to achieve in his work; analysing his paintings and the attitudes of people to them.". � from the front fold over panel blurb. Corners slightly rubbed and there are some bumping along the bottom edges of book along with shelf wear. There has been discolouration of the boards of the extreme edges of the top and the bottom of the book. Dust marks to top paper edge and a few foxing spots. Previous owners name on the title page.
