Un vol. au format in-8 étroit (218 x 136 mm) de 280 pp., broché.‎ ‎''Le regain d'intérêt pour le narcissisme dans la théorie psychanalytique justifie la publication de ce recueil d'articles, qui comporte aussi des textes inédits, tous centrés sur cette question, l'une des plus énigmatiques de la psychanalyse. Freud, après avoir introduit le narcissisme en 1914, devait se désintéresser de ce concept qu'il avait brillamment développé quand il eut procédé aux remaniements théoriques amorcés autour de 1920 qui donnèrent naissance notamment à la dernière théorie des pulsions (opposition des pulsions de vie et des pulsions de mort), à la deuxième topique de l'appareil psychique (Ça-Moi-Surmoi), à sa nouvelle conception de l'angoisse, etc. Après une période d'oubli, ce concept en déshérence fut remis en honneur en France depuis déjà un certain nombre d'années, tandis que l'Amérique sembla redécouvrir récemment son existence. André Green, qui n'a cessé de s'intéresser à ce problème depuis 1963, est cependant un des rares auteurs - sinon le seul - à avoir tenté d'articuler la théorie du narcissisme avec celle de la dernière théorie des pulsions. Alors que le narcissisme n'est généralement envisagé que sous ses aspects positifs, par lesquels on le rattache aux pulsions sexuelles de vie, il montre la nécessité de postuler l'existence d'un narcissisme de mort, qu'il appelle le narcissisme négatif. À la différence du premier, qui vise l'accomplissement de l'unité du Moi, le second tend au contraire à son abolition dans l'aspiration au zéro. Cette théorie du narcissisme est complétée par l'exposition d'un certain nombre de " formes narcissiques " qui sont autant de configurations observées dans la pratique. Enfin, un travail sur le Moi souligne la duplicité qui sous-tend sa structure dans la contradiction entre se savoir mortel et se croire immortel. Tout porte à conclure à Narcisse Janus.''
