Questo libro propone una riformulazione del trauma in termini evolutivo-relazionali, come risultato della mancata elaborazione delle emozioni traumatiche, ovvero di quelle emozioni non simbolizzate nell'ambito delle relazioni primarie. Il bambino, se maltrattato, non può sviluppare l'autostima e la capacità di comprendere gli stati mentali propri e dell'altro, qualità necessarie a esplorare con fiducia l'ambiente circostante e quindi a costruire relazioni significative. Le esperienze croniche di trascuratezza hanno effetti negativi su svariate aree del funzionamento del bambino dando origine, ad esempio, a somatizzazione, difficoltà di sintonizzazione emotiva, mancanza di controllo degli impulsi, come anche, nei casi più gravi, a stati dissociativi. La perdita di una base sicura, insomma, rappresenta una condizione traumatica capace di predisporre il soggetto alla depressione, alla dipendenza patologica, ai disturbi del comportamento alimentare. E non sempre è in relazione con maltrattamenti espliciti, come indica il fatto che la disorganizzazione dell'attaccamento è per lo più connessa a esperienze traumatiche irrisolte del genitore, le quali si riflettono sullo stato dissociativo del bambino. Il presente volume esamina le possibili relazioni causali fra le esperienze traumatiche e la psicopatologia, a partire dalla teoria dell'attaccamento, dell'infant research e dalle recenti scoperte neuro-biologiche sulla natura relazionale della mente.

br. Il tema del danno psichico non è sicuramente tra i più semplici da affrontare. Nella civilistica tradizionale (manualistica come anche monografica) l'argomento era pressoché ignorato; oggi se ne parla probabilmente di più, ma con un grado di attenzione, nella maggior parte dei casi, alquanto modesto. Quanto alla giurisprudenza, poi: si sa bene quale importanza essa rivesta, non da oggi, nello studio della responsabilità civile, e occorre ammettere invece che la produzione italiana di sentenze rimane, nell'ambito in esame, pressoché irrisoria. Si tratta oltre tutto di materiali non facili da reperire nascosti come si presentano sotto vesti quasi sempre poco canoniche (laburistiche, consulenziali, medico-legali, transattive, penali, infortunistiche).

I mass-media, d'altra parte, propongono spot pubblicitari provocatori, copertine di rotocalchi con donne sempre più "seducenti", richiami al corpo e alla sfera sessuale; il confine fra il comportamento alimentare e quello sessuale, delineato a livello fisiologico, diventa sempre più tenue sottolineando evidenti rapporti tra la gestione del cibo e quella del sesso. Il disagio, sempre più esternato, porta a rivolgersi all'"esperto". Il ginecologo, l'andrologo o, ancora più spesso, il medico di base o l'operatore sociosanitario si trovano frequentemente a dover affrontare problemi per i quali non sempre hanno ricevuto una preparazione adeguata. Con questo volume si intende offrire una guida che consenta all'"esperto" di uscire dai suoi specialismi, di comprendere l'individuo nella sua complessità e problematicità. Non si vuole rendere il medico "psicologo" o lo psicologo "medico", quanto promuovere il reciproco incontro, favorendo l'integrazione delle competenze nel lavoro d'équipe. br. Un sapere nomade conosce il senso della finitudine e il dono dell'ospitalità con chiunque sia in cammino: è uno spaesamento che però si tramuta in dialogo e accoglienza. Ricostruire una trama significa andare alla caccia del testo nascosto, del non detto, della vita così poco compatta che scorre senza che ci sia una storia a definirla; significa rischiarare l'opacità con la quale siamo soliti raccontarci.
