Produced by John Wildberg and directed by Harry Wagstaff Gribble and featuring an all African American cast the play originally premiered at the American Negro Theatre in Harlem and then translated to Broadway with many of the same cast members. Hilda Simms played Anna and other cast members included Roy Allen Rosetta LeNoire Georgette Harvey Frederick O'Neal Slim Thompson et al. The front wrapper art is a two color preproduction of the Random House jacket art and Gribble contributes an essay on the play in company with a synopsis biographical sketches and photos of the players and a history of the American Negro Theatre by playwright/novelist William Du Bois reprinted from the NYT.
