‎Erste deutsche Ausgabe dieser Propagandaschrift für den sogenannten Brownianismus. - Hirsch/H. II, 602/603. - Das Werk fand große Beachtung wegen der 89 Seiten umfassenden Vorrede von Johann Peter Frank, dem Vater des Verfassers und einer medizinischen Autorität ersten Ranges. "Dieser, augenscheinlich verführt durch übergroße Liebe zu seinem Sohne, die sich auch in den Lobpreisungen auf denselben offenbart, trat in der Vorrede, freilich mit einer gewissen Reserve und Zweideutigkeit im Ausdrucke, zu Gunsten des Brown'schen Systems in die Schranken und erregte dadurch einen großen Jubel unter den Brownianern. Solche Parteinahme kam denn auch dem Inhalte des Buches von Joseph F. zu Gute und verlieh ihm Autorität. In dieser Arbeit finden sich aber ebenfalls manche Abweichungen vom Meister, wie denn offenbar mit der zunehmenden Erfahrung auch die medicinische Einsicht des F. wuchs" (H./H.). Seine völlige Abkehr vom Brownianismus vollzog Frank in seinen "Acta instituti clinici" (Leipzig 1808-12), "worin (er) in liebenswürdigster Offenheit eingesteht, dass er sich von dem Augenblicke an, als er das ewige Licht der Natur erblickt, der Fesseln schämte, an welche ihn, doch nicht unauflöslich, die Liebe zum System geschmiedet hatte" (H./H.). - Der Verfasser ist übrigens auch durch ein Lehrbuch der Hautkrankheiten bekannt geworden, das als in sich abgeschlossener Band innerhalb von Frank mehrbändiger "Praxeos medicae universae praeceptae" erschien und dem Dermatologiehistoriker Richter zufolge von den modernen Historikern sehr zu Unrecht vernachlässigt worden ist, "da es nicht nur durch die Fülle des kritisch gesichteten Materials und der bibliographischen Angaben stets seinen Werth behalten wird" (Hirsch/H. II, 603). - Titel mit gelöschtem Stempel der dermatologischen Klinik der Universität Leipzig. - Sehr gut erhalten, nur vereinzelt minimal fleckig.‎
