Giovanni Manardi (1462?1536) studierte in Ferrara, wo er als Professor Nachfolger von Leoniceno wurde. Einer der gelehrtesten Ärzte seiner Zeit, der sich aber auch einen Namen machte als Krititker der Astrologie. Die erste Ausabe des Werkes erschien bereits 1521, das Buch wurde jedoch für die Basler Ausgaben von 6 auf 18 und in der vorliegenden Fassung auf 20 Bücher erweitert. «The letters illustrate in an intresting way the transition form Arabian to Greek dominion. George Alfred Leon Sarton 31 August 1884 – 22 March 1956 was a Belgian-born American chemist and historian. He is considered the founder of the discipline of the history of science as an independent field of study. He has a significant importance in the history of science and his most influential work was the Introduction to the History of Science which consists of three volumes and 4296 pages. Sarton ultimately aimed to achieve an integrated philosophy of science that provided a connection between the sciences and the humanities which he referred to as "the new humanism". Wikipedia Edgar Goldschmid born 14 December 1881 in Frankfurt died 26 May 1957 in Lausanne was a German physician pathologist and historian of medicine.Born to a Jewish family he was a son of the banker and art collector Eduard Goldschmid and attended the Lessing-Gymnasium in Frankfurt. He studied medicine at the University of Freiburg the University of Kiel and LMU where he was influenced notably by Otto von Bollinger. In Munich he earned his doctorate in 1905 with a dissertation on tuberculosis in children. He worked at hospitals in Munich London Berlin and Geneva before returning to his native Frankfurt. From 1913 he worked at the Senckenberg Institute of Pathology and was a close collaborator of the institute's director Bernhard Fischer-Wasels. He was an adjunct professor Privatdozent at the Goethe University Frankfurt from 1914 and associate professor of pathology from 1920. From 1920 he was a contributor to Handbuch der normalen und pathologischen Physiologie. His most important work is "Geschichte und Bibliographie der pathologischen-anatomischen Abbildung" which was published in Leipzig in 1925. As a result of the Nazi takeover Goldschmid emgrated to Switzerland and was Professor of history of medicine at the University of Lausanne from 1933. ‎L'auteur, né en 1772 à Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines (Haut-Rhin) dont il fut le maire de 1810 à 1818, ancien Chirurgien-Major dans les Armées françaises, était auteur et propriétaire de la Quintessence anti-psorique ou Eau de Mettemberg à base de muriate de mercure et d'infusion végétale. Remède très controversé mais ici défendu par la commission de révision. Défendu aussi par Chaptal.‎
