‎Eros. Spring, 1962. Volume One, Number One.‎

‎New York: Eros magazine, Inc., (1962). - Quarto, 13 inches high by 10-1/8 inches wide. Hardcover, bound in printed tan boards titled in black with an erotic playing card depicting the King of Spades deducing a partially nude damsel mounted on the front cover. The covers are rubbed and the card is soiled along the edges. 79 & [1] pages, profusely illustrated in color and black & white throughout. There is some minor foxing to the title page. Very good. This literary, historical, counter-culture periodical's focus on erotic subjects was published by Ralph Ginzburg. Ginzburg was tried and convicted on obscenity charges for pushing the envelope, not only for the erotic nature of his periodical but also likely due to its political contents. This issue, one of only 4 published, includes an essay by Nat Hentoff "The Blues of Blacks and Whites", Eric Partidge's "A Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue - Abridged", Dr. Albert Ellis's "A Plea for Polygamy", depictions of "Le Florentin" playing cards, "A Photographic Essay by Garry Winogrand entitled "Love in the Subway", Art Kane's photographs & essay "Me and the Male Prostitutes of Bombay", etc.‎
