Psychedelic Rock The Move
Poster advertisement for the 1968 debut album by "The Move
London: EMI Records 1968. Original poster advertising the 1968 eponymous debut LP of the British Invasion band The Move. The poster depicts the band's guitarist Trevor Burton in a Dylanesque pose and on a Dylanesque motorcycle noting at the bottom the Regal Zonophone release IDs of both the mono LRZ1002 and stereo SLRZ1002 pressings of the album. An image we have never seen for a band whose ephemera and existing promotional material are exhaustively documented online.

The Move were so named because the five musicians in its charter lineup left existing Birmingham groups in order to form the band. Under the wing of manager Tony Secunda the group moved to London and crafted an explosive act heavily influenced by The Who. The difference between the two bands was that The Move favored poppier lighter subject material almost a rock version of The Zombies.

After this release The Move would continue to shift their lineup morphing into a band that was less popular but more interesting writing and recording songs with denser and more ambitious arrangements. This change in approach crystallized with the arrival of member Jeff Lynne with whom The Move's Roy Wood would later form The Electric Light Orchestra. The band's final two outings "Shazam" 1970 and the "Message from the Country" 1971 today hold cult status as classics. An important band that bridged the gap between late 1960s British Invasion pop and the progressive rock movement of the early 1970s.

15 x 20 inches folded twice presumably as issued. Very Good with chips at the lower corners and the upper corners neatly clipped. The Regal/EMI device at the bottom left is missing its lower left corner but still plainly recognizable. Dome of the Rock albumen photograph
Interior of Mosque of Omar Dome of the Rock and the Foundation Stone albumen photograph Circa 1880s
19th century albumen photograph of the interior of Mosque of Omar Dome of the Rock and the Foundation Stone. 11" x 8.5". Unmounted. Image shows a view of the foundation stone in the foreground with the intricately decorated architecture of the dome in the background. The Mosque of Omar is located in Jerusalem and was built between 685-691 and is important for the Muslim Christian and Jewish faithes. The Foundation Stone the temple was built over bears great significance in the Abrahamic religions as the place where God created the world and the first human Adam.4 It is also believed to be the site where Abraham attempted to sacrifice his son and as the place where God's divine presence is manifested more than in any other place towards which Jews turn during prayer. The site's great significance for Muslims derives from traditions connecting it to the creation of the world and the belief that Muhammad's Night Journey to heaven started from the rock at the center of the structure. The Dome is located on the Haram al-Sharif an enormous open-air platform that now houses Al-Aqsa mosque madrasas and several other religious buildings. Few places are as holy for Christians Jews and Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif. It is the Temple Mount the site of the Jewish second temple which the Roman Emperor Titus destroyed in 70 CE while subduing the Jewish revolt; a Roman temple was later built on the site. The Temple Mount was abandoned in Late Antiquity. The photo shows the interior of the Mosque colonnades are seen in the photo are around the Rock and are clad in marble on their lower registers and their upper registers are adorned with mosaics. Very good condition. unknown books

Tiphaigne de la Roche Charles FranAAois
GIPHANTIE
Babylone Paris: n. p. 1760. First edition. 16mo. Part I 2 176 pp; Part II 2 174 pp. Contemporary full mottled calf with the spine in six gilt-decorated compartments; hinges partially cracked but firm; rubbing at the edges and chipping at the corners. Moderate foxing or soiling. A near very good copy. "In 1760 the French writer Charles François Tiphaigne de la Roche wrote a novel that today would be considered science fiction. Titled Giphantie an anagram of his name it describes his imaginary travels. He was lifted into the air and transported half unconscious to a beautiful garden in a strange land. There he met a Spirit who said 'I am the Prefect of this island which is called Giphantie.' With the Prefect as guide Tiphaigne explored the wonders of 'the island.'" In GIPHANTIA Chapter XVII Part I The author prophecies the fixing of transient images of nature by the action of light. "Thou knowest that the rays of light reflected from different bodies make a picture and paint the bodies upon all polished surfaces on the retina of the eye for instance on water on glass. The elementary spirits have studied to fix these transient images: they have composed a most subtle matter very viscous and proper to harden and dry by the help of which a picture is made in the twinkle of an eye. They do over this matter a piece of canvas and hold it before the objects they have in mind to paint. The first effect of the canvas is that of a mirror; there are seen upon it all the bodies far and near whose image the light can transmit. But what the glass cannot do the canvas by means of the viscous matter retains the images. The mirror shows the objects exactly; but keeps none; our canvases show them with the same exactness and retains them all. This impression of the images is made the first instant they are received on the canvas which is immediately carried away into some dark place; an hour after the subtle matter dries and you have a picture so much the more valuable as it cannot be imitated by art nor damaged by time." See PHOTOGRAPHY: ESSAYS & IMAGES 1980 edited by Beaumont Newhall p. 13-14.

This is considered a cornerstone book in any collection of photographic literature and photography's first fictional work.

The English edition of a year later is titled: GIPHANTIA: OR A VIEW OF WHAT HAS PASSED WHAT IS NOW PASSING AND DURING THE PRESENT CENTURY WHAT WILL PASS IN THE WORLD.
Roosens and Salu No. 10421.

n. p. unknown books

See PHOTOGRAPHY: ESSAYS & IMAGES 1980 edited by Beaumont Newhall p. 13-14 "In 1760 the French writer Charles François Tiphaigne de la Roche wrote a novel that today would be considered science fiction. This impression of the images is made the first instant they are received on the canvas which is immediately carried away into some dark place; an hour after the subtle matter dries and you have a picture so much the more the valuable as it cannot be imitated by art nor damaged by time." This is considered a cornerstone book in any collection of photographic literature and photography's first fictional work.

Roosens and Salu No. 10421.

Printed for Robert Horsfield unknown books
