Willy Wonka: Chocolate and the Chocolate Factory Signed Photograph.
Large photograph of <span class="match">Willy</span> <span class="match">Wonka</span> the five golden ticket winners and their parents and a trio of Oompa Loompas. Boldly signed by Gene Wilder Peter Ostrum Julie Dawn Cole Denise Nickerson Paris Themmen and Michael Bollner with each but Wilder adding their respective character names from the 1971 film. The photograph measures 17 inches by 12 inches. Double matted and framed. The entire piece measures 22.75 inches by 17.75 inches. An attractive piece. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is a 1971 American musical fantasy film directed by Mel Stuart and starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. It is an adaptation of the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl who himself wrote the screenplay. The film tells the story of Charlie Bucket Peter Ostrum as he receives a Golden Ticket and visits Willy Wonka's chocolate factory with four other children from around the world. Filming took place in Munich in 1970 and the film was released by Paramount Pictures on June 30 1971. In 1972 the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score and Wilder was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actor in a Musical. The movie introduced the song "The Candy Man" which went on to become a popular hit when recorded by Sammy Davis Jr. In 2014 the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally historically or aesthetically significant". unknown books

Contemporary tree sheep gilt spine with raised bands and lettering piece edges rouged ribbon marker. Light rubbing and shallow scuffing to boards faint illegible name to rear board moderate rubbing to extremities with wear to spine ends and corners joints just starting at ends later owner signature to front pastedown crack in text block between title page and following leaf. Light toning to interior text in fine almost calligraphic hand within ruled margins a few nineteenth-century notes laid in. $3500. Enhanced with a table of contents this handsomely written copy of the Paris coutume was intended for annotation. There is large blank space below the text on each page and occasional blank leaves. The laid-in slips have brief annotations about the coutume and its articles. Two of them have dates from the nineteenth century. Our assignment of a c.1700-1750 date to the manuscript is based on its binding orthography and handwriting style. unknown books

Unpaginated circa 36 pp. promotional history of the French paper manufacturer who specialized in producing cigarette papers with text in French English and Spanish walking through the entire paper production process from the raw materials to pulp all the way through to the finished product with four-page double-fold at the center of the booklet highlighting the machinery which transforms the pulp to paper and original printed tissue paper overlay listing the locations of JOB in France Algeria England Belgium and Switzerland. Profusely illustrated throughout primarily from industrial photographs. Some very minor wear and soiling along edges. Small folio. Original embossed wrpps. some very minor chipping and abrasions to covers. Paris Paul-Martial n.d. circa 1938. A wonderfully designed well-illustrated and beautifully printed booklet detailing the history of Société JOB. The company was founded by Perpigman pharmacist Jean Bardou in 1838 who first branded his products "J.B." with the letters separated by a diamond. This booklet was issued upon the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary and the text within proclaims ".and the soul of the French craftsman reveals itself at every turn in this far-seeing industrial organization." Rare; as of October 2020 OCLC locates only two holdings worldwide and none in a North American institution. unknown books

London: Longman Rees Orme Brown & Green 1827 Brattleboro VT: Optical Toys 1995. 12mo 15.3 cm 6.02". 28 pp. incl. pr. wrappers. <br><br>This is a faithful reproduction of a set produced in France over 100 years ago": Modern facsimile of the chapter on thaumatropes from the first edition of Dr. Paris's Philosophy in Sport => accompanied by 14 working examples and instructions for their use. The 1827 text uses an elaborate fictional frame story about the Seymour family and friends to teach about conducting experiments and examining scientific principles via "the common toys which have been invented for the amusement of youth" p. 25 including the thaumatrope or wonder turner a spinning-disk optical illusion serving as an early form of animation and often considered a part of cinematic history. The French "jeu du thaumatrope" set reproduced here was originally published circa 1891; 12 of the present thaumatropes have preprinted illustrations while two have been left blank for a user to decorate.<br>Â Â Â Â Provenance: Inside box lid with bookplate of Vance Gerry of the Weather Bird Press; later in the children's book collection of Albert A. A beautiful and rare album comprising title page a map showing the location of the naval battle of Kil-Bouroun Kinburn and 15 chromolithographic plates depicting mostly maritime scenes after the battle along the ice-bound Dnieper River including inside the fort disembarking onto the ice and ruined fortifications lithographed and colored by Eugene Ciceri and Adolphe Bayot the ships drawn by Antoine Léon Morel-Fatio after drawings by Paris. Some details appear to be hand-colored. Some scattered foxing small stain to inside front cover a few small tears along binding spine very slightly shaken. Folio. Full leather raised spine. Paris Arthus-Bertrand/Becquet Freres n.d. circa 1856. The Battle of Kil-Bouroun Kinburn took place during the final phase of the Crimean War on October 17 1855 at the tip of the peninsula of Kinburn along the Dnieper River in modern-day Ukraine. During this naval battle the British and French forces destroyed the Russian navy having attacked them with a fleet of ironclad ships. The decisive battle helped to signify the decline of the traditional wooden warship. A unique association copy of Louis Philippe d'Orléans' work in favor of trade unions inscribed by him to former Union General George B. McClellan. Prince Philippe volunteered for the Union Army during the Civil War and served on McClellan's staff for almost a year. His friendly inscription reads "Au General McClellan souvenir de son ancien aide de camp Louis Philippe D'Orleans." <br> <br> Prince Philippe a historian and author wrote several works of history including the present example and a multi-part history of the Civil War titled A HISTORY OF THE CIVIL WAR IN AMERICA. His experiences on the staff of Gen. McClellan greatly informed Prince Philippe's work generally considered a standard text on the War. The present work is a nice association copy between Prince Philippe and his one-time boss during the early years of the conflict. unknown books

Paris 1783. 4pp. printed in double columns. Quarto. Later marbled boards leather label. Near fine. On January 20 1783 terms for a general armistice between England and France and Spain were reached two months after terms with the United States had been worked out. A general armistice was agreed upon for February 4. This supplement to the ROYAL GAZETTE was probably the first publication of the terms of the British-French agreement. The French advantage after Yorktown had been largely lost with De Grasse's defeat in the Caribbean in 1782 so the net effect was largely a return to status quo with Caribbean possessions of both sides restored. Furthermore England's claims to Newfoundland were maintained and mutual fishing rights off the Canadian coast were agreed upon. DAVENPORT 169. hardcover books
