- Par l'auteur, s.l. 1983, 22x22cm sur papier Ilford 30x40cm, une feuille. - Grand portrait photographique original en noir et blanc réalisé par Marc Trivier. Tirage argentique original non signé, comme la plupart des uvres de Trivier. Précieuse épreuve argentique originale du célèbre photographe belge, un des artistes contemporains les plus secrets, qui malgré un succès international précoce, a préféré limiter sa production pour conserver la cohérence de son uvre. Marc Trivier ne tire pas de nouveaux exemplaires de ses anciens portraits, le papier de tirage qu'il utilisait n'est d'ailleurs plus commercialisé. L'artiste « réalise lui-même ses tirages sur papier baryté Ilford, consacrant plusieurs jours de travail à chacun, avec une concentration particulière pour rendre les blancs, par contraste avec des noirs d'une rare densité. Un tirage de Marc Trivier ne ressemble à aucun autre. Lorsqu'il accepte de les exposer, il les suspend dans des cadres en inox de sa fabrication, laissant libre cours à la vie du papier. » (Xavier-Gilles, « Marc Trivier et la tragédie de la lumière » in Le Monde Libertaire, 2011). Cette « vie du papier » participe de l'uvre au même titre que les diverses altérations que subissent les photographies lorsqu'elles sont exposées : « Dans les boites, les tirages gondolent, mais qu'importe : le photographe affectionne ce genre d'accident. » (Claire Guillot, « Les face à face sans échappatoire du photographe Marc Trivier », Le Monde, 2011). Marc Trivier a une sensibilité particulière pour l'aspect matériel de ses productions. Alors que la photographie relève par essence du multiple, cette intervention de l'artiste dans tout le processus de création confère une aura autographique à ces tirages. Photographies d'artistes, de fous, d'arbres ou d'abattoirs, Marc Trivier aborde tous ces sujets avec un regard aussi précis qu'intense. « Dans sa cosmogonie, chaque chose, chaque être, végétal, animal ou humain, mérite le même respect. Car tous sont confrontés à la même loi d'airain : la solitude. » (Luc Desbenoit). La beauté qui émane de ses photos vient de cette nudité. Il n'y a ni retouches, ni recadrages. On retrouve dans son uvre le même format carré souligné par le carré du négatif que Trivier laisse sur ses tirages. Ce cadre piège notre regard dans des photographies où le fard de la couleur est rejeté pour un noir et blanc incisif. Toute artificialité ayant disparu nous ne faisons pas face à la mise en scène d'un sujet mais à une présence exacerbée par la lumière irradiante et singulière, témoin d'un instant de vie et non de pose. C'est cette lumière, liée au médium photographique, qui unit les séries de Marc Trivier : « Les photographies de Marc Trivier écrivent une tragédie de la lumière, celle-ci n'accueillant les êtres - hommes, arbres ou bêtes - qu'en les brûlant, avant disparition. » (Xavier-Gilles in Le Monde Libertaire). C'est aussi elle, délivrée de tous les artifices, qui donne à ses uvres l'aura qui les rend si présentes. Cette « brûlure » de la lumière nous renvoie à un instant réel, au « ça a été » de Barthes (La Chambre Claire, 1980) : « De trente-cinq ans de pratique photographique, d'obsessions, c'est peut-être ça qui reste : un mode d'enregistrement singulier de la brûlure de la lumière, décliné d'une image à l'autre, en une succession de propositions qui se ressemblent et pourtant chacune est aussi singulière que la fraction de temps auquel elle renvoie. » (Marc Trivier). « La photographie ne dit qu'une chose : « C'était. » On ne fixe que ce qui a été. S'il y a une tragédie, elle est là. » (Marc Trivier) Warhol, Foucault, Beckett, Dubuffet ... les plus grands écrivains et artistes ont posés pour Trivier. Simultanément l'artiste s'intéressent également aux marges de la société, à ce que les hommes ne veulent pas voir. Il photographie alors les aliénés et les abattoirs qu'il place en regard des célébrités. Dès la fin des années 1980 son uvre est unanimement reconnue

A LOT of 15 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS of SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR TROOPS and ROUGH RIDERS at camp.
<p>Possibly Florida circa 1898. 1898. Very good. - A lot of 15 original 3-1/8 inch by 5-3/8 inch black & white photographs of Spanish-American War soldiers at a training camp quite possibly in Florida. The images depict uniformed troops lined up for inspection as well groups of soldiers at rest and recreation or performing tasks amongst rows of tents or in the fields. Several images depict small groups or individuals posing for portraits and one of the images depicts a large row of horses likely those of the Rough Riders being tended by soldiers as others perform tasks around the camp. There is but minor soiling to the verso of the photos and the edges are very slightly curled and could easily be pressed down. Very good.</p><p>The Spanish-American War was fought between Spain and the United States from April 21 to August 13 1898 following the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine in Havana. The United States intervened in the Cuban Revolution and the Philippine Revolution the latter leading into the Philippine-American War. The war ended Spanish influence in the Americas Asia and the Pacific. The United States for its part gained sovereignty over Puerto Rico Guam and the Philippines.</p><p>The First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry known as the Rough Riders trained at Camp Riverside in San Antonio Texas then moved to Tampa Florida as they awaited embarkment for Cuba.</p> (Possibly Florida), circa 1898.

<p>Woodstock NY 1920-1924. 1920-1924. Fine. - Two original photographs by Eva Watson-Schutze the first is an original 6-1/8 inch high by 8 inch wide brown-toned platinum print photograph of Federico Stallforth and his 2 daughters Anita on his left side and Gioja on his right side. Seated and portrayed from the chest up Federico looks upon Gioja who appears to be seated in his lap while Anita leans into him on his other side. The photograph by Eva Watson-Schutze is signed with her monogram in the upper right corner. The second is an original 8 inch high by 6-1/8 inch wide brown-toned platinum print photograph of Adie Estebena Risse the sister-in-law of Federico Stallforth. Adie is seated and portrayed in three-quarter profile from the hips up. Attired in a white lacy dress with a long pearl necklace with a silk head covering. The photograph by Eva Watson-Schutze is signed with her monogram in the upper left corner. Fine.</p><p>Eva Watson-Schutze 1867-1935 was a founding member with Alfred Stieglitz of the Photo-Secession movement. As a young woman she was most interested in painting and was a student of Thomas Eakins. After pursuing photography for some 20 plus years she returned to painting in the 1920's. She was known for her pictorialist style. She spent her summers and autumns at the Byrdcliffe colony in Woodstock New York from 1910 to 1925.</p><p>Federico Stallforth 1882-1960 was born in Mexico of German parents. He was involved with his brother in banking and in 1906 he married Anita Risse. With his family in 1912 he fled the revolutionary forces in Mexico and settled in the United States. For most of the remainder of his life he lived in Woodstock New York and worked as a successful investment banker. For many years he was a supporter of the German government but despite many attempts on the part of the American government he was never convicted of being a spy. In 1942 he joined the American side and worked in the OSS. His sister-in-law Adie Estebena Risse also settled in the artists colony of Byrdcliffe in Woodstock where she occupied herself as a sculptor.</p> Woodstock, NY, 1920-1924.

The ancient city of Ephesos located on the Aegean coast of Turkey and one of the most extraordinary settlements in the Aegean region was the home of a glorious civilization. For this large-format publication dedicated to the city of Ephesos and its monuments and sculptures Ertuğ & Kocabıyık collaborated with the specialists of the Austrian Archaeological Institute which has been carrying out the excavation restoration and reconstruction work at the site continuously since 1954. Prof. Friedrich Krinzinger the director of the Ephesos excavations laid out the editorial concept of the book while the archaeologists who are responsible for the excavations and discoveries wrote the scholarly text.
