Louise Dahl-Wolfe 1895 - 1989 Was An American Photographer. She Is Known Primarily For Her Work For Harper's Bazaar In Association With Fashion Editor Diana Vreeland. She Began Her Studies At The California School Of Fine Arts Now The San Francisco Institute Of Art Where She Studied Design And Color With Rudolph Schaeffer And Painting With Frank Van Sloan. After Graduating Dahl-Wolfe Worked In Designing Electric Signs And Interiors. In 1921 Dahl-Wolfe Met With Photographer Anne Brigman Who Inspired Her To Take Up Photography. From 1927 To 1928 Dahl-Wolfe Traveled With Photographer Consuelo Kanaga Who Furthered Her Interest In Photography. In 1928 She Married The Sculptor Meyer Wolfe Who Constructed The Backgrounds Of Many Of Her Photos. Dahl-Wolfe Was Known For Taking Photographs Outdoors With Natural Light In Distant Locations From South America To Africa In What Became Known As "Environmental" Fashion Photography. Compared To Other Photographers At The Time Who Were Using Red Undertones Dahl-Wolfe Opted For Cooler Hues And Also Corrected Her Own Proofs With One Example Of Her Pulling Proofs Repeatedly To Change A Sofa's Color From Green To A Dark Magenta. She Preferred Portraiture To Fashion Photography. Notable Portraits Include: Mae West Cecil Beaton Eudora Welty W. H. BROSCHIERTE Ausgabe, kleine Lesespuren - Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) gab sich gerne als der letzte Dandy des Britischen Empire: mondän und feinsinnig, ein "fanatischer Ästhet", wie er sich selbst bezeichnete, dem Eleganz und Stil so wichtig waren wie die vollendet zur Schau getragene Pose des Müßiggängers. Dabei war er rastlos tätig und ein Mann vieler hervorragender Eigenschaften und Talente. In seiner Karriere vereinigte er so unterschiedliche Tätigkeiten wie die des Theaterdesigners und Filmausstatters, des Schriftstellers, des Mode- und Gesellschaftsphotographen, des Zere-monienmeisters der High Society wie der Londoner Nobel- Bohème und des passionierten Gärtners auf dem eigenen Landsitz. Weltberühmt und unsterblich wurde Cecil Beaton als Photograph. Das Geheimnis seines ungeheuren Erfolgs liegt wohl darin, daß es ihm gelang, in seinen Bildern die Geschichte und die Gesichter einer ganzen Epoche zu spiegeln. Instinktiv stilsicher und souverän wandelte er traumtänzerisch über den Abgründen und Gegensätzen seines Jahrhunderts. Das englische Königshaus, dessen Hofphotograph er war, und der New Yorker Underground, wo er Andy Warhol zum Vorbild wurde, stecken die gesellschaftlichen Extreme ab, zwischen denen er sich ohne sichtbare Anstrengungen bewegte. Seit den frühen zwanziger Jahren, in denen er zu photographieren begann, bis hinein in die siebziger Jahre war sein Werk ein einziges Gipfeltreffen auf dem Hochplateau des internationalen Zeitgeistes. Es wird hier, fast fünfzehn Jahre nach Beatons Tod, erstmals umfassend dargestellt - in einer opulenten Monographie, die einen der wichtigsten Beiträge zur Geschichte der Photographie im 20.
