Sur les modèles précédents, les créateurs n'avaient pas cherché à rendre leur appareil agréable au regard. De plus, il est le premier téléphone à posséder la fonction « décrocher/raccrocher » grâce à son mécanisme. Le Type 10, inventé par Eurlieult, utilise des fils entourés de coton comme isolant pour transmettre le son, mais il s'avère que ces fils ne sont pas fiables. Les Marty sont des téléphones qui respectent un cahier des charges précis, ils sont vendus en France à partir de 1910 en grandes quantités. Ils intègrent une magnéto actionnée par une manivelle permettant dappeler lopératrice8. Le Marty est aussi fabriqué (par l'AOIP) en version murale. En 1922, un concours est lancé pour choisir un nouveau modèle unique ; ce sera le PTT24 en 1924 (c'est de là que vient son nom). Ce téléphone est prévu, à la base, pour les réseaux automatiques, mais il existe pour les réseaux privés grâce à sa batterie locale. Lars Magnus Ericsson crée sa société de fabrication de téléphones en 1878. Dès l'année suivante, il est le plus gros fournisseur de ces appareils en Scandinavie. En 1900, l'entreprise compte 1 000 employés et 50 000 téléphones produits. Deux ans plus tard, elle lance ses premiers points de vente aux Etats-Unis. Den første gang han var på gaden i sin blå træningsdragt med poser i knæene, stod han midt i en kreds af børn og svingede med et kosteskaft for at holde dem væk. Jeg var et par år ældre og kunne beskytte ham, og således blev jeg bedste ven med denne enspænder og - skulle det vise sig - original. Vi boede på Porsgrunnsgade over for den store legeplads Parken, som altid var fuld af kvarterets børn. Min far var ingeniør på Danfoss, som han yndede at kalde slaveanstalten. Bjerregård Jessen var redaktør for den socialdemokratiske avis Sønderjyden, som lå i Jernbanegade. Avisen eksisterer ikke længere. Han var absolut en hovedets mand og måske derfor forfærdelig upraktisk og ikke lidt af en kujon. Det kom især til udtryk, når han sad ved rattet, når vi kørte til sommerhuset i Løkken. Ved ankomsten til Viborg slog det ikke fejl, at lommetørklædet kom frem og svedperler blev tørret af panden med skælvende hånd. Vi vidste alle, hvad der skulle ske, men ingen lod sig mærke med noget.
