Henry Philip Hawkes it may have been commercially inspired by or based upon the English publication of the same title 'Photography in a Nutshell' by "The Kernel" pseudonym of Henry Philip Hawkes which was issued in London by Iliffe & Sons Limited published in 1891 and re-issued in 1906; the English edition has different pagination and content than this 1909 American publication of the same title written by 'The Kurnel' copyright by Edward Rock. Text in two sections the first devoted to William Lord Noyes 1846-1866 who died suddenly just shy of his twentieth birthday and the second section is devoted to his grandmother Sarah Luther Martial 1796-1868. Includes biographical sketches of each subject with "An Epitome of the Sermon Preached by Rev. F. Harrington at the funeral of William Lord Noyes" and memorial letters about William's death including one by Sarah Luther Martial. The book is illustrated with an original full-page albumen print photographic portrait of Mrs. Sarah Luther Martial the photograph is printed on coated photographic paper which measures 7 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches consisting of a vignette portrait of Sarah Martial with her inscription below in holograph facsimile stating "Your loving mother Sarah L.
