‎2020 Kalender Brussels at work / Brussel aan het werk / Bruxelles au travail / Calendier 2020 / calender 2020 / photo's WILLY KESSELS / De Kessels-collectie is een uitzonderlijk geheel van meer dan 8000 foto?s over architectuur, industrie en ambachten in Belgi tussen 1930 en 1960. Willy Kessels maakte de meeste van deze foto?s in opdracht van architecten, aannemers, bedrijfsleiders, uitgeverijen en voedings- of farmaceutische bedrijven. De collectie bevat ook een artistiek onderdeel met foto?s die aansluiten bij de avant-garde van het interbellum; onder meer zijn befaamde fotocollages. In 1987 verwierven de Archives d?Architecture Moderne (AAM) 7370 zilvergelatine gedrukte glasnegatieven, bewaard in hun oorspronkelijke dozen. Het geheel werd in 1989 aangevuld met 460 monochrome negatieven op glas en plastic en met kleurnegatieven op plastic. In 1991 en 1992 werd de collectie geregeld aangevuld met oude afdrukken en publicaties. Dit fonds maakt nu deel uit van de CIVA collecties. Enkele jaren eerder, in 1981, verwierf het Institut sup rieur d'Architecture de l?Etat ? La Cambre 650 monochrome glasnegatieven en oude afdrukken, waarvan een veertigtal grote afdrukken met foto?s van de school. In april 1987 begonnen de AAM met een eerste identi?catie van 7830 negatieven op basis van het bestelboekje van Willy Kessels en van tijdschriften waarin hij foto?s had gepubliceerd La Revue Documentaire, B tir, Clart of l?Emulation. In 2016 werd begonnen met de digitalisering van 5000 negatieven. Deze actie werd ge?nancierd door het fonds Courtin-Bouch via de tussenkomst van de Koning Boudewijnstichting. De nummering van de digitale bestanden is gebaseerd op die van de dozen van Willy Kessels, zodat er een overeenkomst blijft bestaan tussen het oorspronkelijke negatief en zijn digitale versie. Om het onderzoekswerk te vergemakkelijken wordt dezelfde logica gebruikt voor de opslag van de negatieven zelf, die met de nodige zorgen geconserveerd worden. In 2017 werd een tweede project opgestart voor de identi?catie van de negatieven op basis van onderzoek dat al in 1987 en 1990 was begonnen. Datzelfde jaar werden de 2830 resterende negatieven en de 144 glasnegatieven van de Archives et Biblioth que d?Architecture de l?ULB die worden bewaard bij CIVA, gedigitaliseerd met een subsidie van de Directie van het Cultureel Erfgoed van het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest.‎

De interesse van de postmoderne cultuur voor bepaalde vormen van fictie, hybridisatie en simulatie, leidde tot ingrijpende veranderingen in de benadering van het lichaam. Dit laatste wordt niet langer gezien als een gesloten en stabiele entiteit, maar veeleer als een flexibel projectiescherm, dat toelaat om fundamentele vragen te stellen over representatie, identiteit en de relatie tussen de geslachten. In plaats van een onveranderlijk biologisch gegeven, is het lichaam voortaan een sociale constructie, die we moeten bekijken doorheen het prisma van diverse ensceneringen in bepaalde historische en culturele contexten. In de fotografie komt deze overgang van een natuurlijk en permanent lichaam naar een ideologisch bepaald en modelleerbaar lichaam neer op het loslaten van een documentaire benadering en het vervangen daarvan door een 'staged photography', een ge nsceneerde fotografie. Deze pretendeert niet langer dat ze de realiteit reproduceert, maar maakt ze tot theater en fictie. Au Moyen ge, cette zone constituait la fronti re entre le royaume des Francs et celui des Wisigoths. Plusieurs ch teaux, comme le ch teau du Hautpoul et le ch teau de Lastours, datent de cette poque. Gr ce l'enclavement de cette zone, la Montagne Noire a t largement pargn e par les effets d vastateurs de la Guerre de Cent Ans. Pendant des si cles, l?exploitation des m taux pr cieux a t la principale source de revenus de cette r gion. Apr s l' puisement des filons d'or, d'argent et de cuivre au XVe si cle, cette zone fut de plus en plus abandonn e. En partie gr ce ce d veloppement, la Montagne Noire est devenue au fil des si cles l'une des plus belles r serves naturelles du sud de la France.‎

‎Het FotoMuseum van de Provincie Antwerpen herbergt een van de belangrijkste collecties fotografische beelden en fotoapparatuur in Europa: meer dan 50.000 documenten en zo'n 8.000 camera's worden er bewaard en in thematische tentoonstellingen aan het publiek voorgesteld. Deze indrukwekkende collectie is in de loop van vier decennia tot stand gekomen dankzij een reeks schenkingen ? met als voornaamste het archief van de publicatiedienst van de firma Gevaert bij de fusie met Agfa in 1965 ? en doelgerichte aankopen, zoals de collectie fotoapparatuur van Michel Auer (Gen ve) in 1973, en de fotoverzameling van Fritz Gr ber (Keulen) in 1978. Het museum is sinds 1986 gehuisvest in het voormalige pakhuis 'Vlaanderen' (1911) aan de Waalse Kaai in Antwerpen. Het werd in 1994 al grondig verbouwd en op dit ogenblik zijn er opnieuw aanpassingswerken aan de gang: er wordt een nieuwe vleugel toegevoegd naar ontwerp van de Belgische architect Georges Baines, waarin het Filmmuseum onderdak zal krijgen. Begin 2004 wordt het museum heropend. Het archief van de verbeelding laat u kennismaken met deze gigantische en 'ontembare' verzameling fotografische beelden, objecten en technische instrumenten. Na een inleidend essay over 'de utopie van het ideale beeldarchief' volgen zes thematische essays waarin de auteurs de fotografie ieder vanuit een eigen standpunt benaderen. Elke bijdrage is ge llustreerd met een reeks zorgvuldig met een reeks zorgvuldig uitgekozen beelden en is vergezeld van een kadertekst waarin de camera's worden beschreven die voor een bepaalde toepassing werden ontwikkeld.‎
