Doisneau Robert
Palm Springs 1960
Flammarion 2010. Near Fine in publishers decorated boards with slight mark to back panel. 1st edition 1st issue. A fresh and unexpected collection of Robert DoisneauÕs color photography captures the glamour and nostalgia of Palm Springs in the early 1960s. In 1961 celebrated French photographer Robert Doisneau was invited by Fortune magazine to cover Palm Springs the hottest travel destination of the day. This renowned paradise catered to HollywoodÕs affluent and reached international acclaim as an indulgent playground for the rich and famous as well as a silverhaired and well-heeled clientele. It was a world of swimming pools awash with bobbing beehives martini-fueled parties and relaxed golf sets all unfolding against the desert backdrop of this California oasis. While there Doisneau took hundreds of photographs twenty-three of which were published in the magazine. The rest have been rediscovered in his archives and one hundred are featured in this unprecedented volume. Doisneau is most recognized for his black and white portraits of Parisian street scenes. This rare color collection which includes a facsimile reproduction of DoisneauÕs original Fortune article provides a fresh perspective into his photographic legacy as well a unique occasion to revisit the early years of one of AmericaÕs legendary destinations. Doisneau, Robert ; Jean Petit
Bonjour Monsieur Le Corbusier
Zurich: Hans Grieshader 1988. Large Square 4to. 111 pp. illustrated throughout. Still shrinkwrapped. FRENCH TEXT but with a 20 pp. booklet that provides an English and German translation. Robert Doisneau was employed as an in-house photographer by Renault a job he willingly quit to work free-lance. He was the photographer of the Résistance documenting both the occupation and the liberation of Paris. His commissioned works for the Racho Agency put his name on the map but it was his images of Paris streets and street life that made him world-famous. Doisneau repeatedly portrayed prominent personalities of his time an example is the mesmerizing portrait of Pablo Picasso with fingers made of cake dough but only the best-informed experts and most loyal followers were aware of the series of portraits of Le Corbusier made in the early 1950s. In 1988 a small extract of this series was published in a then-groundbreaking edition that presented Doisneau's images in a luxurious yet still discreet form. Most of the time the architect painter and sculptor Le Corbusier was painfully aware of the camera watching over him and when concentrated he playfully manipulated the camera by chosing different poses or expressions. Sometimes though Doisneau was able to catch the modern master at unexpected moments. Reminiscent of his snapshots of Paris life these images show us the human being that was behind one of the great thinkers and innovators of the 20th century. Fine copy in it's plain card slipcase. 3905103028 . Fine. Hardcover. First Edition. 1988. Hans Grieshader 1988 hardcover
