Belehnungsbrief für ein Häuschen zu Gunsten des Sekretärs Conradt Koeten nach 18 treuen Dienstjahren, da dieser bessere Wohnverhältnisse für seine Familie brauche und dieselbe Gnade zuvor schon einem anderen Hofbediensteten, Claus Schreiber, zuteilgeworden war: "[...] Er unser Secretarius [solle] aber darjegen schuldigk sein [...], solch Häußlein in Bau und Beßerung zuhalten, Unß und der unßerigen dafür (wie er ohne daß vermöge seiner Bestallung zu thun schuldig ist) getreu, gehorsamb und gewertigk zu sein [...] da er auch ohn dieser Behausung zur seiner beßeren commoditet etwas Hauptweßliches bauen würde [...]". - Mit Regest verso. Es fehlt das Siegel; die Plica bis auf den mittleren Bereich abgetrennt (die Einschnitte zur Anbringung des Siegels eingerissen). Leicht braun- und wasserfleckig.

The only truth in my person is that I am fighting with all my patriots to live as free people in a free country in the free democratic world. We Egyptians, believe that this [!] a very justified demand. Unfortunately the Britishers do not agree with us and wish we live [!] as slaves under their domination. Our fight, now, is to force the British to understand our case and evacuate the Canal zone and thus gain our freindship [!] instead of our hateree [!]. To realize our aim, we are ready to sacrifice our lives. This is one side of a small picture of myself and you can find, Dear Sir, that there is no greatness in it but there is truth, faith and hope [...]". - Signed as General Secretary on a letterhead printed in Arabic. The addressee was a Polish-American-Jewish collector and member of the Goldblatt family that owned Goldblatt Bros. department stores in the Midwest headquartered in Cicago. A typed English heading states Cairo's "Liberation Rally Republic Square", Tahrir Square, also the center of the demonstrations of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, a critical part of the Arab spring. In upper left corner traces of a staple. - Black and white photography (125:78 mm) added, showing Nasser waving, in the background an enormous crowd of people demonstrating.

This is a 17-pages softcover document AUTOGRAPHED by Jazz legend Nat King Cole (1919-1965). Penned by him with blue ball pen on the front cover. A 250 x 158 mm brochure in Portuguese with a black and white photograph of the legendary jazzman on the cover. Nat King Cole performed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the renowned hotel Copacabana Palace in Abril 1959, from the 13th to the 19th. Presented by Carlos Machado (1908-1992) and the charity Pro Matre. The inside describes who Machado and King Cole are, with many ads and black-and-white illustrations. Of note: a picture of Cole with Sammy Davis, Harry Belafonte, Frank Sinatra and other stars. He is even shown looking at Da Vinci's Mona Lisa in France! Very little wear and tear/foxing on the covers. Yellowed margins inside. King Cole's dedication is very legible and easy to recognize. VG-.

Central fold from having been sent. Interesting letter mentioning a future reading of Natalie Clifford Barney: A literary hour must be devoted to me this Wednesday at 5pm 41 rue des Petits champs. This session of my poems and thoughts will be accompanied by 4 melodies by Florent Schmidt. The so-called literary hour will also be a tribute to one of Natalie's greatest loves who died several decades earlier: There will also be 3 poems that I wrote in memory of Renée Vivien. The two women experienced an intense and tumultuous relationship in their youth. After the tragic and early death of her lover Natalie Clifford Barney continued to honor her memory notably by becoming a patron of the Prix Renée-Vivien created by the baroness Hélène de Zuylen another of Renée's lovers. It is at the end of 1899 and through Violette Shillito that Renée Vivien then Pauline Tarn met Natalie Clifford Barney ""this American woman softer than a scarf whose sparkling face shines with golden hair sea blue eyes never-ending teeth"" Colette Claudine à Paris. Natalie who had just experienced a summer romance with the scandalous Liane de Pougy who introduced her to sapphism paid little attention to this new acquaintance. Renée on the other hand was totally captivated by the young American woman and describes this love at first sight in her autobiographical novel Une femme m'apparut: ""I lived again the hour already well past when I saw her for the first time felt the shiver that ran through me when my eyes met the mortal steel of her look those eyes blue and piercing as a blade. I had a dim premonition that this woman would determine the pattern of my fate and that her face was the predestined face of my Future. Near her I felt the luminous dizziness which comes at the edge of an abyss or the attraction of a very deep water. She radiated the charm of danger which drew me to her inexorably."" ""Winter 1899-1900. Beginnings of the idyll. One evening Vivien is invited by her new friend to Mme Barney's studio Natalie's mother 153 avenue Victor-Hugo on the corner of the rue de Longchamp. Many of his works were inspired by the garden and neighborhood of Dilborn palace near Brüggen, where he lived from 1911 to 1931. - Small creases near upper corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.

Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph letter written with a fine riq'a script signed by Naum Nimetullah Pasha as 'Paris Sefîr-i Kebîri' [i.e. Paris ambassador] of the Imperial Ottoman, addressed to 'Ottoman Foreign Ministry', on the Ottoman princes that [Abdürrahim] Muhib Pasha sent to Paris for education. Includes 12 lines. Full. 25x15,5 cm. In Ottoman script. 1 p. Sealed as 'Naum, 1314'. Dated fî 11 Rubu'üssani sene [1]326 AR = fî 22 Tesrînisânî [1]324] AH = 1908 AD. Naum Pasha, (The governor of Cebel-i Lebanon between 1892-1902; ambassador of Paris, France between 1908-1911), was an undersecretary in the Foreign Ministry of Imperial Ottoman at the time of his Lebanon appointment and enjoyed the confidence of a number of senior Ottoman statesmen. He was also a favored candidate of the Maronite Church by virtue of being the nephew and son-in-law of Franko Kusa, the second governor of the mutasarrifiyya, he was still remembered for his friendly relations with the Church. Furthermore, Naum gained the support of Mustafa Arslan by reappointing him to the district-governorship of Shuf-albeit reluctantly, under pressure from a number of Mustafa's friend in Istanbul, Damascus, and Beirut. But Naum's greatest advantage was the concurrence of his tenure with the most tranquil years of the last half-century of Ottoman history. [.] Naum served in Mount Lebanon. Soon after beginning in the 'Hariciye Tahrirat Kalemi' and serving in various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was appointed as the governor of Cebel-i Lebanon (1892) with the rank of vizier. During the Second Constitutional Monarchy, he served as the Minister of Public Works for a short time (3-8 August 1908). He was sent to the Paris Embassy for the second time while he was under the Undersecretariat for Foreign Affairs. He died while he was in this post.; Abdürrahim Muhib Efendi, or, pasha, was the ex-ambassador of Paris between 1806-1811 before Naum Pasha.

An den Münchner Impresario Emil Gutmann (1877-1920), zur Bestätigung eines Zahlungseingangs: "Indem ich Ihnen für Uebersendung von 300 Mark bestens danke, bedaure ich, dass die Münchener Veranstaltung Ihren Erwartungen leider nicht entsprochen hat. Es soll mich sehr freuen, Sie gelegentlich eines Berliner Aufenthalts im Reichstag oder in meiner Privatwohnung zu sprechen und bitte Sie nur um freundliche Anmeldung [...]". - Der Empfänger des Briefes ist heute für die Organisation der Uraufführung von Mahlers 8. Symphonie am 12. IX. 1918 bekannt. Zur Vermarktung des überaus erfolgreichen Konzerts prägte Gutmann die von Mahler abgelehnte Bezeichnung "Symphonie der Tausend". Bei der weniger erfolgreichen Veranstaltung, in deren Folge der Brief entstanden ist, dürfte es sich um einen Vortrag Naumanns gehandelt haben. - Der liberale Politiker Friedrich Naumann war 1918 Mitbegründer und erster Vorsitzender der Deutschen Demokratischen Partei, der unter anderen der spätere erste Bundespräsident Theodor Heuss angehörte. - Auf Briefpapier mit lithogr. Martinique, 1897. Folio journal. French manuscript abstract of a French naval captain M. Vailhen. 55 pages in two parts. String-tied vellum boards, titled by the captain. Very slight chips to leaf edges, otherwise very good condition, a crisp and clean manuscript document with wide margins, 12 printed military diagrams pasted within, as well as several hand drawn diagrams by the captain. With the captain's signature in three places including front. Cours - Historique Succint de l'artillerie de côte et de l'artillerie navale. [Succint Dissertation on the History of Coastal Artillery and Naval Artillery] The captain's abstract on the history of naval artillery used at sea and on the coast, dated 1897, begins with the antiquitity of war as early as the thirteenth century, including the first use of gun powder and the alchemical work of Roger Bacon. A substantial portion of this work covers the progression of the canon, and its uses in several theatres of war, from the time of Louis XI, in which numerous models are named and described, and, several diagrams are discussed and annotated. Vailen's detailed study records dates of the first significant advances in the field of artillery, and continues describing structural and scientific advances to artillery employed the navy. The work comprises many specific calculations relating to gun powder, pressure, elements, fabrication, and the like. Furthermore, the captain frequently compares French and English advancements, indicative of the ongoing rivalry of the colonial period. Together with an official stamped and signed authorization for brief leave in the following year. 8vo. single leaf, dated Fort-de-France 3 August 1898. Signed and stamped by the Colonel, Senior Commander of the 6th Battery in Martinique. Also signed by the Chief Commander of Artillery, and the Commissioner. The authorization for leave, and order for transportation, indicates that a campaign had just ended, and that the captain was permitted to return to France for a vacation. He was assigned to embark a 'paquebot' or steamer which was departing the French colony of Martinique on the 10th of August 1898. The document further indicates that the officer had received his pay up to the 31st July 1898, but was evidently due remuneration up to the 24th of August upon his arrival in France. This document predates the Mount Pelé eruption of 1902 by only four years, a pivotal event which propelled Fort-de-France into commercial success. "Capitaine M. Vailhen... en second à la 6ème batterie de l'Artillerie de Marine, groupe d'Afrique et des Antilles... est ordonné... de rentrer en France pour y jouir d'un congé de fin de campagne" Cet officier s'embarquera sur le Paquebot transatlantique quittant la Colonie vers le 10 Août 1898..." Und die ist: wäre es nicht möglich dass ich diesen Winter in einem Gesellschaftsconcert mitwirkte. Ich muss aufrichtig gestehen, dass ich sehr gerne wieder einmal in Wien, wo ich meine Laufbahn begann, wieder [sic] singen möchte und zwar in so einem illustren Ramen [!]. Ich habe in Deutschland in den bedeutendsten Concerten mit größtem Erfolg gesungen, meine Stimme und Vortragsweise eignet sich ganz besonders für den Concertsaal. Ich stehe auch in Unterhandlung diesen Winter in Berlin zu singen […]". - Auf Briefpapier mit schwarzem Trauerrand. - Nawiasky war nach seiner Gesangsausbildung am Konservatorium Chorist am Stadttheater (Ronacher) in Wien und von 1876 bis 1882 Solist an der Wiener Hofoper. Nawiasky besaß einen großen Stimmumfang, der ihn sowohl für das deutsche wie auch das italienische Fach prädestinierte, und war auch als Liedsänger geschätzt. Nach seinem Bühnenabschied war er als Gesangslehrer in Wien tätig.- Auf Briefpapier mit schwarzem Trauerrand.
