Written from exile to the lawyer Gustave Chaudey (1817-71) in Paris about completing his memoir, his written apology against his prosecution and the confiscation of his famous work "Justice in the Revolution and in the Church", 25 copies of which were seized at the French border, hoping for legal consultation in the matter, and mentioning a 15-day trip around the Ardenne region of Belgium which he recently undertook: "J'ai achevé le travail de rédaction et publication du dit Mémoire. Expédition de vingt-cinq exemplaires par la douane: saisie-arrêt au ministère, refus de livraison, consigne à la frontière, etc. C'est dommage: l'effet est magnifique, et les connaisseurs demandent à propos de la consultation: Qu'est-ce que M. Chaudey? C'est un grand jurisconsulte [...] Puis, j'ai fait une tournée de quinze jours à travers la Belgique, dans la partie qu'on nomme l'Ardenne et qui ressemble assez, mais sur une échelle réduite, à nos montagnes du Jura, à leurs vallées et torrents [...]". - About summoning the minister who refused to let his memoir enter the French border, hoping to see him condemned to repeal the ban, pointing out that the government and the courts are denouncing the memoir without having read it, and comparing the system of justice to the secret police: "Entre temps, je plaide. Written in exile to the lawyer Gustave Chaudey (1817-71) in Paris fearing the imminent seizure and auction of his and his wife's possessions at their Paris home, hoping she will be able to secure his manuscripts and notes, as well as his collection of the Revue du Peuple, and a Latin Bible with his handwritten annotations: "A présent j'ai à vous consulter sur deux choses: 1. Ne va-t-on pas aller rue d'Enfer, 82, opérer une siasie, mettre à l'encan les logues de ma femme et les miennes, et étaler au grand jour ma vieille misère? [...] J'ai, parmi mes livres, la collection complète du Peuple, etc., et une Bible in 4o, latine, chargée de notes marginales de ma main, que je ne céderais pas pour mille écus [...] En tout cas, et pour éviter l'indiscrétion de ces bons messieurs de la police, je serais bien aise que ma femme mît en sûreté manuscrite, carnets de notes, Peuple, et Bible [...]". - Inquiring about legal options to fight his conviction following the prosecution and confiscation of his famous work "Justice in the Revolution and in the Church", pointing out that even a man sentenced to death and executed can be rehabilitated if the truth comes out later, about his intention to publish a memoir, a plan impeded by the authorities who will not give him sufficient time or listen to his claim that several laws were violated in his conviction, and wishing for a sentence authorising him to publish his memoir in Paris: "Par exemple, il y a moyen de réhabiliter un homme condamné à mort et exécuté, si la vérité se reconnaît plus tard. N'y aurait-il rien pour mon affaire? To a friend about their mutual acquaintance Félix Stappaerts (1812-85), editor of the "Revue Britannique Belge", who had promised Leopold, Duke of Brabant and heir apparent to the Belgian throne, to use his journal to lobby for the construction of a Belgian fleet, and attempted to convince Alphonse-Nicolas Lebègue (1814-85), the editor of "L'Office de Publicité", to do the same, efforts which led to accusations of his having abandoned his political independence as a journalist to be levelled against him: "M. Stappaerts, de vos amis, est directeur de la Revue Britannique Belge [...] Dernièrement, Monseigneur le duc de Brabant, qui caresse le projet de créer en Belgique une marine de l'Etat, fit prendre 50 abonnement[s] de la Revue en demandant à M. Stappaerts s'il ne lui serait point agréable de défendre, dans son excellent recueil, le projet de marine de Son Altesse. M. Stappaerts répondit, en acceptant les abonnements, que certainement rien n'allait mieux aux idées de la Revue et à son impartialité personnelle, et qu'il était hereux de faire quelque chose pour le bien de l'Etat, et le service de Monseigneur. Là-dessus, Monseigneur d'exprimer sa reconnaissance, en ajoutant qu'il serait tout à fait content, si, par l'entremise de M. Stappaerts, il pouvait obtenir pareille faveur de l'Office de publicité [...] Engagement pris, le Britannique vient donc trouver l'Officieur: Bonne nouvelle, dit-il, je vous apporte cent abonnements. Que me faudra-t-il faire? Presque rien, prendre parti dans l'Office pour la marine belge comme je le fais dans La Revue. À ces mots, la dignité du libraire-éditeur monte sur ses grands chevaux: L'Office est indépendant, nous voulons garder notre position. To Auguste Rolland upon receiving a book by Diderot from Sigward, and about his decision not to attend a single play this summer to prevent his theatre-loving wife from being spotted in the audience of every show, despite his feeling that it would be a welcome distraction from the misery of exile. Proudhon recommends a sleep cycle of no more than six or seven hours, following sunset and sunrise, as a powerful means of curing many illnesses, and points out that he has only one portrait for each of his friends: "J'ai reçu le vol. de Diderot, et la lettre qui l'accompagnait, par Sigward lui-même [...] Mais, de grâce, d'ici au mois d'octobre, qu'il ne soit donc plus question de spectacle. Cela cause toujours ici quelque noise [...] D'un autre côté, l'exil est pour moi un deuil, le spectacle est de la dissipation [...] je serais irrité au dernier point s'il me revenait qu'on aperçoit Mme Proudhon à tous les spectacles. Bref, j'ai décidé que de tout l'été on ne verrait aucun théâtre: et cela sera ainsi [...] J'ai entendu dire à un grand médecin, que de se coucher et lever avec le soleil, surtout en été, donc jamais dormir, en aucune saison plus de 6 à 7 heures [...] était un régime qui quérierait de bien des malades. To his brother Charles Proudhon with advice not to open a spice shop, which would prove a financial liability, and the suggestion to lease parts of his house instead; describing his appointment at the ministry the other day, where he was formally assured that he would not be prevented from writing, and hoping soon to receive permission to publish the "Revue du Peuple": "Une boutique d'epicerie? Tous les villages en sont pleins, et tu n'y gagneras que le plaisir d‘avoir des billets à payer, et des échéances toujours trop proches. Ne peux-tu trier de ta maison quelque petit revenu? Tu pourrais avoir un, deux, même trois pensionnaires, si tu étais dans un pays plus peuplé [...] Hier [...] j'ai été mandé au ministère, où l'on m'a dit formellement qu'on n'entendrait pas m‘empêcher d'écrire. Probablement même que je vais être autorisé à faire une Revue, la Revue du Peuple. Cela pourrait me remettre sur pied. Dieu le veuille, car j'ai grand besoin de me remonter, et je ne pourrais pas rester longtemps comme je suis [...]". - About his family's need for a new maid who will tend to the two children, do household chores, and go for walks with his wife; hoping he might know a suitable girl, as their former maid is quitting to start an apprenticeship, pointing out that they can pay up to 15 Francs depending on the girl's skills, and that she should go out as little as possible as they are not keen on love affairs: "La fille que nous avons, une nommée Thérèse [...] nous quitte pour entrer en apprentissage. Elle trouve une maison où elle gagnera le même gage, et par dessus le marché, un état. Nous avons donc besoin de la remplacer. Connaîtrais-tu quelque jeune fille [...] qui ait envie de voir Paris? Nous pouvons payer de 9 à 12 fr. par mois, 15 au plus, selon les talents de la personne. Le service n‘est pas dûr, mais assez attirrant: il y a deux petits enfants. Promenade de temps en temps avec ma femme, et sorties le plus rares possibles: nous ne voulons pas souffrir d‘amourettes […]". - Slightly spotted.

Small folio and 8vo. Altogether 66 pp. on 22 bifolia and 1 single sheet, one with autograph address on verso, one with pencil notes on verso. Emotional correspondence between Proudhon and the entrepreneur Aloysius Huber (1815-65) about the Besançon-Mulhouse railway project. In the early 1850s several rival companies vied for a government concession for the route, including the company founded by Huber, an Alsatian veteran of the Revolution of 1848 who had been Proudhon‘s neighbour at Doullens gaol. Proudhon managed to arouse the interest of Jerome Bonaparte in the projected railway, and in the process seems to have convinced himself that the plan had an idealistic side, as a decentralised pattern of small railroads would be superior - at least according to his social theories - to a unified system. As Huber struggled to obtain a concession, he regularly informed Proudhon of his progress in the matter, frequently appearing in a rather desperate mood, at one point even proclaiming in frustration: "un diable les chemins de fer!" (23 May 1853). - Completely invested in the project, Huber considers his obtaining the concession "a matter of life and death", and invokes Jean-Gilbert Victor Fialin, Duc de Persigny, Minister of the Interior, who supposedly told Proudhon that all it takes is a company presenting favourable conditions: "Le moment est decisif et c'est pour nous, pour moi sutout qui n'ai pas d'autre avenir, une question de vie et de mort [...] Quant tu es allé auprès de M. de Persigny, celui-ci t'a repdondu qu'il suffisait de présenter une pareille compagnie avec des conditions aussi avantageuses pour que le gouvernement lui accorde la concession [...]" (8 April 1851). He urges Proudhon to act quickly, fearing that one of the other companies might beat them to the concession: "Ne perdons pas de temps, mon cher Proudhon, je t'assure que si la concession du chemin de fer de Besançon à Mulhouse ne nous est pas accordée, elle sera très prochainement accordée à une autre compagnie […]" (16 Jan. 185?). - Some six weeks after he agreed to function as solicitor in the project, Proudhon appears irritated, doubting the sincerity of the company as well as its need of Huber himself: "Je te l'ai dit dès le commencement: Je ne crois pas de deux choses […] or que ta Compagnie soit sérieuse […] or qu'elle ait besoin de toi […]" (17 Feb. 1853). Huber repeatedly mentions his dire financial situation, as he is struggling with substantial debt: "En attendant, je suis moi-même profondement decouragé, je me suis donné tant de peine, j'ai fait tant de dettes dans l'intérêt de ma compagnie, que je ne saurai jamais comment me liquider […]" (23 July 1853). - Eventually, the railway concession went to Pereire, a former Saint-Simonian who became an economic pillar of the Bonapartist regime. Pereire offered an indemnity of 40,000 francs to be shared between Proudhon and Huber as compensation for their disappointment. In one of his letters Huber wonders whether Proudhon will take the money (in the end he did not): "Que veux-tu faire avec les vingt mille francs qui sont à la disposition chez M. Pereire? Les prends-tu? o en fais-tu présent à ce Juif? ou enfin veux-tu que je les prenne? To an unnamed addressee: after their discussion of the previous Monday, he sends the plan of the deed of the society, edited by his friends and himself, as a basis of a new publication of "La Voix du Peuple": "Sauf les réserves que vous pouvez avoir à exprimer, et qu'il nous sera possible d'admettre, je crois que notre arrangement pourrait être conclu en deux mots, c’est que vous prendriez la totalité des actions, et que vous accepteriez purement et simplement l’acte de société. À la qualité de bailleur de fonds joignant celle d’administrateur inamovible, vous avez, ce me semble toutes les garanties, tous les avantages qu’il est juste de vous accorder: il n’y aurait plus qu’à nous entendre sur la répartition des actions industrielles. Combien en exigez-vous? [...]" ("Except from reservations which you could have, and which we could possibly accept, I believe our arrangement could be put into two words: you will take all the shares and will purely and simply accept the deed of the society. Concerning the quality of the financial backer joining that of the irremovable administrator, you have, it seems to me, all guarantees, all advantages that it is fair to grant you: there is no more to be done than to agree on the repartition of the industrial shares. Proudhon awaits the recipient's observations and conditions: "nous avons depuis un mois commencé de sérieuses démarches pour grouper notre capital; il nous importe de savoir si nous devons ou non les continuer [...]" ("A month ago we launched serious steps to put together our capital; it matters for us to know if we may or may not continue to do this [...]"). - On headed stationery of "La Voix du Peuple, journal quotidien et hebdomadaire". The letter by Proudhon's widow to Lachâtre (Passy, 19 Nov. 1874) deals with a copy of a letter by Proudhon addressed to Lachâtre which she recently received from M. Léon Gélineau, expressing her hope to learn the year in with Proudhon had written it, as a brochure called "l'Epoche à Amétié" is mentioned there.

Plus tard, Proust appuiera la publication des écrits de son protégé dans le Figaro et, en 1913, sollicitera ses lumières scientifiques lors de la correction de son manuscrit de la Recherche. Il lui soulignera à cette occasion qu'il a utilisé dans "Les Jeunes filles" une anecdote survenue chez les Daireaux: " Il n'y a (dans le second volume) qu'un seul mot bête et il a été dit par moi chez vous..." (lettre du 19 juin 1913).

Et le commentaire que Ruskin eut écrit sur ce dessin. Ce commentaire est d'une justesse telle (Reynaldo) d'une facilité si convaincante (Reynaldo) d'une science si profuse (Reynaldo) d'une ressemblance si réussie (Reynaldo) d'une élocution si charmeresse (Reynaldo) et d'une si transcendante philosophie, que je vous prie de me le renvhoyier ou de le garsder, mais en me corrigeant les fautes d'anglais [...]" Et termine sa lettre avec une portée de musique sur laquelle figure le nom de Paul Gold Schmidt. Il s'en inspirera pour un passage sur la sonate de Vinteuil. Céleste l'évoquait comme "richissime", "collet monté", "du côté de Sodome", ami d'un jeune Anglais du nom de Charlie [Humphries]. - "Mon petit Genstil. Mon petit genstil. Mon Buncht. Dites genstil si calmants ont réussi, s'ils ont produit un bon effet moral et consultation [ ?] de même. Il continue sa lettre sur la page en vis-à-vis: "je devais coucher chez toi ce soir mais je suis si fatigué que je reste chez moi, à travailler un peu. Mille embrassades. Hahn. Je vais te faire voir bien des choses et je t'enverrai ces jours ci […]". La lettre se termine sur le dernier feuillet par trois cœurs fléchés. 8vo. Together 7 pp. In French. From the correspondence with the publisher Jacques Rivière, concerning the publication of extracts of the "Recherche" in Rivière's Nouvelle Revue Française (NRF). The earliest letter, dated 17 January 1921, was dictated to his then secretary Henri Rochat, the later letters (September and October 1922) to his assistant Céleste Albaret. - The first letter concerns the forthcoming publication of the extract "Le Baiser" from "Le côté des Guermantes" on 1 February 1921. Proust relates that he "worked all night" on the proofs, lamenting that Rivière is a "quite demanding master". He also mentions that he suggested to Gaston Gallimard working simultaneously with several printers on "Guermantes" and the fourth volume "Sodome et Gomorrhe I et II", as he "could correct many proofs", but has not yet received an answer: "nous gagnerions beaucoup de temps si j'envoyais ma fin corrigée de Guermantes II à un second imprimeur et le manuscrit de Sodome I à un troisième imprimeur ; mais tout cela est pour un même ouvrage peut'être es [!] impossible d'atteler plusieurs imprimeurs à un même ouvrage". Although Proust himself doubts how feasible this suggestion may be, he stresses that it is important not to lose a single day. In closing, he points to a misprint: "le brouillon parle d'un 'entreteneur', alors que l'épreuve parle d'un 'entrepreneur', ce qui "ne veut rien dire du tout". - The second letter can be dated to 22 September 1922. Written in third person, it first relates how Proust suffered from "asthmatic crises such as he never had before", which made it "impossible to occupy himself with the book". Concerning the ongoing publications, Proust laments that "the extract le sommeil d'Albertine is a bit short and should be seasoned with adjacent pieces". While Proust had previously been "indifferent" to the placement of his extracts in the NRF, he now wishes to be "put first", although he understands if this is not possible. - The final letter can be dated to 12 or 13 October, a month before Proust's death. Incapable of correcting proofs of extracts from "La Prisonnière" himself, due to a high fever, Proust asks Rivière to eliminate any repetitions. He also condemns the ending of the final phrase "on the artist and the man of reason" as stupid, wondering how such a mistake could have happened: "Comme ma fièvre a sensiblement augmenté, je n'ai plus ajouté de corrections à celle que j'ai déjà faites. Si vous avez la gentillesse de jeter un œil bienveillant sur le tout, qui n’est pas long, vous pourrez peut-être enlever quelques redites, qui affaiblisse. En tous cas je ne puis comprendre par quel erreur de manuscrit la phrase finale fini si bêtement, sur l'artiste et l'homme de bon sens". In the final sentence of the letter, Proust bids farewell to Rivière, expecting that he will not be able to dictate further letters. - Gallimard had originally refused to publish the "Recherche" based on the judgment of André Gide, and Proust published "Du côté de chez Swann" at his own expense with Grassot in 1914. Gide later apologized to Proust, and Jacques Rivière managed to secure the publication rights for Gallimard, starting with "À l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs" in 1918. Apart from being his editor at Gallimard and the NRF, Jacques Rivière was one of Proust's earliest admirers and defenders. Their correspondence stretches from 1914 to 1922. - Traces of folds. Apparently to the French aesthete, Symbolist poet, art collector and dandy Robert de Montesquiou (1855-1921), who had been the inspiration both for des Esseintes in Joris-Karl Huysmans' "À rebours" (1884) and for Baron de Charlus in Proust's "À la recherche du temps perdu" (1913-27), discussing his attending a conference and a novel by Gabriele D'Annunzio: "Vous 'ne doutez pas' comme disent les gens du monde, que je ne souhaite - sans guère l'espérer - d'être en état d'assister à la Conférence. Je serais heureux de me rendre compte par moi-même ce qu'en penserait la Petite (non, la Grande!) Mademoiselle. Elle a toujours eu un faible pour nous (ce qui est son fort!) Et le merveilleux roman de d'Annunzio me semble par son sujet convenir merveilleusement à l'instruction des enfants confiés à Miss Winter. Je vois là le thème tout indiqué pour les représentations de théâtre jouées au naturel entre frère et sœur. Vous voyez que je ne fais pas comme les gens qui font semblant de ne pas connaitre l'existence des enfants dont on ne leur a pas notifié la venue au monde. Je n'ai pas moins ressenti de cette omission, au tort de mes sentiments, d'une façon cruelle et durable 'car enfin mon respect et mon obéissance semblent dignes à mes yeux d'une autre récompense'. 8vo. 4 pp. on bifolium. On stationery with black border. In French, to Gabriel Mourey on his translation of Ruskin's "Treasures of the Kings" and his love of flowers thwarted by asthma. The letter refers to the proofs of the last part of his translation of John Ruskin's "Treasures" published on 15 May 1905 in the magazine "Les Arts de la Vie", edited by Mourey. Proust thanks him for having "taken the trouble and found the time, in the midst of all your occupations, to return this manuscript to me. I immediately corrected the proofs, which were absurd because of the fault not of your protests but of my typist", and he sent them back to Mr. Davoust. "I did not confuse your handwriting with my own (unfortunately for me there is no confusion possible!) you restored a paragraph number that I had forgotten. So you correct this in the English text! That is wonderful! This way of conducting our poor little instruments, with an open book, on the orchestral score, amazes me." He recommends not to correct the word 'chanter': "It's not a mistake, I put 'chanter' once and 'château' the other time. There is 'cantel' and 'castel' in the text and I have thus preserved, even reinforced, the alliteration. I know that 'chantau' is not very popular, but neither is 'cantel'. It is the same word and the same derivation." Finally, he evokes Mourey's "Verger" (Orchard) "that undoubtedly the spring dews and Japanese of these flowers that I loved so much and that I can no longer approach since they give me terrible asthma attacks, punishment for having loved them too much, which in my case takes on something even more mythological than pathological, and from which I would easily extract, it seems to me, the legend of a Nemesis hidden in the starry heart of the apple trees, who forbids to overstep the normal limit of admiration and desire towards them and stops in front of their flowers the indiscreet lover in a ridiculous sternutation, which, if I had not suffered so much, would seem to me, in some metamorphosis, directly translated from Latin" (transl.). - Slight damage to edges and centerfold, otherwise in fine condition.

Er bereiste seit 1818 wiederholt den Kontinent und malte Landschaften und Architekturveduten aus England, Holland, Frankreich, Deutschland, Italien usw. mit reicher figürlicher Staffage. "[H]e became celebrated as a painter of the churches, streets, and market places of Normandy" (Ward, S. 735). Als eine seiner vorzüglichsten Arbeiten gilt die Herstellung der 25 Lithographien des 1822 und 1824 erschienen Buches "Illustrations of the Rhine".

A. Marmet, au nom de la "Muse de Nadaud" : "il vit que malgré l'air de positivisme qu'on respire à Roubaix, il y avait encore des hommes épris d'idéal, dont les principes, les aspirations, s'élevaient au-delà des mesquines divisions politiques [ ... ]". Industriel et poète, Amédée III Prouvost (1879-1909) mourra prématurément de phtisie. Der Sohn des Komponisten Alois Provaznik war Organist an der Metropolitankirche von St. Veit in Prag und war nach knapp zwei Jahrzehnten vorwiegend privaten Musikunterrichts für den tschechischen Rundfunk in verschiedenen Funktionen tätig. Sein kompositorisches Werk umfaßt neben zahlreichen eigenen Schöpfungen unzählige Bearbeitungen tschechischer und ausländischer Komponisten; sein ‘Cantatibus organis’ für gemischten Chor, Soli, Orgel und Orchester wurde 1936 bei den Salzburger Festspielen aufgeführt. Seehofer welche sich ja Ihren freundlichen Gesinnungen erfreut gütigst anzeigen zu wollen [...]". - Die in Wien geborene Künstlerin debütierte 1848 in Graz als 'Adalgisa' in Bellinis 'Norma' und sang 1849/50 an der Wiener Hofoper. Anschließend an den Hoftheatern in Hannover und Mannheim engagiert, setzte sie nebenbei ihre Ausbildung bei Julius Stockhausen fort und gab Gastspiele in München und Wien. Einer Stimmbanderkrankung wegen mußte sie 1856 ihre Karriere aufgeben, war fortan als Gesangspädagogin an der Wiener Opernschule "Polyhymnia" tätig und gründete später ein eigenes Institut, an dem sie bis zu ihrem Tod unterrichtete. "Zu ihren erfolgreichsten Partien gehörten die Elisabeth im 'Tannhäuser', die Susanna in 'Die Hochzeit des Figaro' und die Valentine in 'Die Hugenotten'" (DBE). Das erwähnte Frl. Seehofer dürfte die um 1846 geborene Sängerin Therese Seehofer sein (vgl. DBA I 1169, 30-31). - Auf Briefpapier mit gepr. kalligr. Monogramm.

The son of noted Ohio clergyman Peter C. Prugh 1822- he was an influential theologian scholar and orator who led the Grace Reformed Church of Pittsburgh for 36 years transforming it into one of the largest Reformed congregations. IPS 3�" X 4" Pittsburgh PA 1910 February. Near fine. A small oval head-and-shoulders portrait of the bearded pastor on glossy book stock handsomely inscribed below his likeness in black fountain pen: "To sh. A.E. Fostell / With the regards of / John H Prugh of / Grace Church Pittsburgh / On the Eve of / Lincolns Birth-Day -- Feb. 1910." Al Emmett Fostell was apparently a retailer of some sort involved in Lincolniana for in 1904 he published "A Rare and Valuable Collection of relics of Historical Interest in connection with our Martyr President Abraham Lincoln from the Cradle to the Grave Loaned by Bro. M.Lavigne est an Canadien-Français, et par conséquent un fidèle ami de la France. Il a largement contriboué à la fondation et au maintien de l'hôpital français à Montréal, qui rend d'énormes service à vos compatriotes qui sont venus vivre parmi nous. Il est l'auteur du chant patriotique 'Vive la France' qui est considéré aujourd'hui comme l'hymne national des Canadiens-Français. Il m'a profondement touché par l'amitié dont il témoigne. Mais j'ai été, aussi, particulièrement heureux de me voir si bien analysé et commenté au fond. Je vois que nous sommes du même avis sur la nécéssité du Jardin secret [...]". - Philippe Gille (1831-1901), who is best known for the libretto to Léo Delibes' opera "Lakmé", was Marcel Prévost's paternal friend. Ich hatte wieder verschiedene Enttäuschungen zu überwinden, und über diese schreibe ich nicht gerne eher, bis ich mich damit abgefunden habe. Die Empfindung, die ich am öftesten habe, ist die: O schöne Eisenacher Zeit, wohin bist Du entschwunden! - Im Sommer hat sich zu Schluß noch Alles für mich sehr gut gewendet. Der Direktor, ein im Grunde sehr anständiger Mensch, den ich näher kennen lernte, war leider privaten Einflüssen ausgesetzt, die die sämtlichen unerquicklichen Verhältnisse verschuldeten. Er bekam es plötzlich satt, reiste ab und beauftragte den Ober-Regisseur mit der künstlerischen, mich mit der geschäftlichen Leitung. 'Leitung' ist nicht zuviel gesagt, denn ich machte eigentlich Alles. Natürlich Regie geführt habe ich nicht. Aber schöne Rollen dabei gespielt [...]".

1 S. Folio (223:282 mm). Albumblatt mit gedruckter Bordüre, gedr. Fußzeile "Beitrag zum Selbstschriftenalbum 'Deutschlands Zukunft'" und gedr. Formular für biograph. Daten, aufgezogen auf einen Bogen Pergamentpapier (ca. 330:344 mm). "Trotzdem Kunstinstituten und Künstlern durch den Zusammenbruch ein fürchterlicher Existenzkampf auferlegt wurde, scheint die Kunst selbst nicht gelitten zu haben. Auch die Kunstbegeisterung ist trotz Sportauswüchsen und Tanzrhythmen nicht verloren gegangen. Dies beweist der in letzter Zeit sichtbare Zuzug aller Schichten der Bevölkerung zu künstlerischen Veranstaltungen [...]". - Geschrieben als Beitrag für die von Friedrich Koslowsky im Berliner Eigenbrödler-Verlag herausgegebene Faksimile-Anthologie "Deutschlands Köpfe der Gegenwart über Deutschlands Zukunft" (1928). Die Sentenz bei Veröffentlichung in Druckschrift wiedergegeben. - Nach einer Saison als Generalmusikdirektor am Nationaltheater in Weimar war Julius Prüwer von 1924 bis 1933 ordentlicher Professor an der Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, wo er die Kapellmeisterausbildung und das Hochschulorchester leitete. 3¾ SS. auf Doppelblatt. 8vo. An eine Dame: "Verzeihen Sie, wenn ich mir abermals erlaube, Ihnen eine Bitte vorzutragen. Ich hätte es mündlich getan, doch bin ich leider heute sowohl als auch morgen beschäftigt und mußte mich daher auch für die Sitzung entschuldigen. Gerlach & Wiedling würde schon demnächst im Subskriptionswege mein zweites Buch verlegen, wenn die Listen eine größere Anzahl von Zeichnern aufwiesen. Darf ich Sie [...] bitten, mir in Ihrem geschätzten Bekanntenkreise Ihre gütige Unterstützung zu leihen? [...]". - Karl Pschorn verfaßte Volksstücke und "gefühlstiefe Lyrik in der Mundart des niederösterreichischen Mostviertels. Er machte sich auch als Prosaschriftsteller einen Namen. Als sein eigentliches Lebenswerk darf der Reichsbund dt. Mundartdichter (Nachfolgever. sind die 1946 gegründeten Mundartfreunde Österr.) angesehen werden, der 1913 ins Leben gerufen wurde und dem er als Obmann zeitweise vorstand" (ÖBL VIII, 317).

- Boscolungo 29 août 1903, 11,2x18cm, 2 pages sur 2 feuillets. - Lettre autographe signée inédite de Giacomo Puccini adressée à un commissaire ; deux pages rédigées à l'encre noire sur deux feuillets blancs. Feuillets uniformément ombrés, traces d'onglets au verso. On joint une reproduction photographique du portrait du célèbre compositeur. Puccini répond à la sollicitation d'un commissaire désireux de faire interpréter La Bohème lors d'un évènement caritatif : "Io non ho niente in contrario che la Bohème venga eseguita per una sera corta a scopo benefico." [Je ne vois pas d'inconvénient à ce que La Bohème soit interprétée pour une soirée à but caritatif.] "Credo pero che sarebbe bene avere anche la adesione della Casa Ricordi proprietaria dello spartito." [Je crois cependant qu'il serait bien d'avoir l'autorisation de la Casa Ricordi [maison d'édition de Puccini] propriétaire de la partition.] Malgré l'échec de la première représentation le 1er février 1896, l'oeuvre connut par la suite un succès mondial qui l'éleva au rang de meilleur opéra romantique.
