Il volume raccoglie una ampia selezione di articoli, cronache e racconti scritti tra il 1939 e il 1950 da Gerardo Guerrieri (1920-1986), dall'esordio su «Roma fascista» fino alla assidua collaborazione con «L'Unità». Regista, critico teatrale, saggista, traduttore e storico del teatro, Guerrieri, ventenne, esponeva i difficili crocevia che incontravano alcuni giovani appassionati in cerca di un teatro, nel dopoguerra, quando il rinnovamento del teatro italiano era ancora aperto ad esiti diversi, affidava alla sua vena di narratore il compito di indicare il mutare incerto dei paesaggi teatrali, ora cogliendo sintomi inediti, ora denunciando l'inerzia delle abitudini. Allo stesso tempo, si dedicava saltuariamente alla cronaca giudiziaria, d'arte, di cinema, di costume e ai racconti della sua terra, la Lucania. Non ci è apparso opportuno separare i primi dai secondi: anche quando è solo intento a compilare la sua rubrica teatrale, Guerrieri non ha mai l'aria di dimenticare ciò che ha d'intorno, come se le scosse di un lontano terremoto trasmettessero alla sapienza della sua pennasismografo il grafico sotterraneo della realtà.

br. Ancora oggi lo sport non è ben visto. Sicuramente ha acquisito una centralità culturale decisiva, eppure qualcosa manca. Peggio: stona. In una fase di crisi stringente e diffuso malessere sociale s'avverte la grande fatica a considerare lo sport, al pari di un punto d'appoggio e d'aiuto. Il compito centrale della sociologia dello sport è interrogarsi sullo strano fenomeno, secondo il quale più lo sport riflette i valori di una società, massime, il calcio, meno se tenderà a parlare o ragionare in termini culturali. Le cose che impariamo attraverso il gioco, i posti di lavoro creati dallo sport, i processi di globalizzazione che hanno favorito il mutamento socio-sportivo, la dimensione mediale dello sport, le pratiche di ricerca del benessere dello sport necessitano di un forte e realistico piano di distinzione teorica e metodologica. Nelle contaminazioni, sovrapposizioni, intersezioni di sistemi sociali diversi (economia, diritto, cultura, società) lo sport diventa un dispositivo di educazione e socializzazione, un'istituzione sociale ben radicata ed un oggetto culturale multidimensionale.
