John Carpenter è considerato da decenni "maestro dell'horror", titolo meritato grazie all'eredità che il genere ha ricevuto dalle sue opere, tuttavia tale titolo rischia di appannare ciò che questo straordinario regista ha donato anche al genere fantascientifico. L'intento di questo volume è infatti porre l'attenzione su ciò che Carpenter ha fatto per il cinema di fantascienza.
