Schweinslederband der Zeit auf fünf Bünden mit reicher Blindprägung. Die Decken durch vier verschiedene Rollen (Humanisten, Bandwerk und Palmwedel) sowie doppelte Blindlinien kassettiert, Eckfleurons als Mittelstück das Wappen der Herzöge von Württemberg, Fürsten von Mömpelgard und Monogramm "AOB", der Hinterdeckel mit arabeskem Mittelstück. Kl.-Folio. Druck aus der Presse des G. Laymarie, ohne Angabe des Druckortes, der häufig mit Lyon angegeben wird, laut Baudrier I, 240 hat er aber nie in Lyon gedruckt. - Der reich verzierte Einband mit geprägter Datierung "1600" stammt aus der Regierungszeit Friedrich I. von Württemberg (1593-1608). Bei dem verwendeten Wappenstempel handelt sich um den bei Haebler II, 93, 1 beschriebenen, der sich auf den Bänden der Privatbibliothek der württembergischen Herzöge findet. Allerdings "wird das Wappen von Württemberg offenbar in viel weiterem Umfange von den Buchbindern dieses Landes zum Schmuck der von ihnen gefertigten Einbände verwendet" (Haebler II, 90). - Ohne die Bindebänder, die Prägung wohlerhalten. Titel mit zwei Besitzvermerken des 17. Jahrhunderts. Innen etwas gebräunt bzw. fleckig. Im Ganzen jedoch sehr ansprechendes Exemplar. Graesse II, 157. Schweiger I, 106. Moss I, 294. A rare U.S. Mississippi Squadron Special Order from Rear Admiral Samuel Lee on the Flag Ship Tempest passing along a confidential telegraph order from Gideon Welles Secretary of the Navy. Admiral Lee conveys the order that "the utmost vigilance should be exercised on the Mississippi River especially the lower portion of it to prevent the carrying across of plunder and property in the hands of Jeff Davis and his Cabinet and also to seize their persons." Davis and other Confederate leaders had fled Richmond and the oncoming Union Army; they had hoped to find sanctuary outside the United States. At one point they hoped to cross the South and reach Mexico. Davis his family and entourage were captured in Georgia on May 10. unknown books

Jodocus Clichtoveus, Flemish Reformhumanist important and controversial Catholic theologian of the Reformation period; one of the most influential teachers at the Sorbonne in Paris, initially stood on the side of the humanists and suggested a result of religious disputes on the side of strict scholasticism. As followers of moderate reforms, he turned decisively against Luther. Provenance: Contemporary Ms. note on upper blank margin of title; ownership inscription of R. R. A stub of paper shows between the front pastedown and the ffep but I suspect this was just a printing flaw and not a missing leave as the decorative blue ruled lines of the pastedown carry over to the recto of the first endpaper and this also matches the rear endpapers. Photographically reproduced historical documents relating to the establishment and history of the Club of Printing House Craftsmen. The colophon states "Note: The originals of the historic documents reproduced in this souvenir are from the extensive collection of memorabilia relating to the printers' associations of every sort in all countries gathered by Henry Lewis Bullen founder of the Typographic Library and Museum of the American Type Founders Company. The souvenir was planned by Mr. Bullen at the request of the Officers of the Club of Printing House Craftsmen of New York City. The printing was done by Wadsworth A. Parker Manager of the Typographic Department of the American Type Founders Company with the assistance of Thad S. Walling General Superintendent of Printing for the McGraw-Hill Publilshing Company. These gentlemen are charter members of the parent Club. This strictly limited edition is issued primarily for presentations to the various Clubs which have extended hospitalities to the Delegates and other members of the New York Club while en route to the Eleventh Annual Convention of the International Association in Los Angeles. Copies have also been presented to the Internationa Association; to Messrs.
