The Wall Street Journal
A HISTORY OF ORGANIZED FELONY AND FOLLY: The Record of Union Labor in Crime and Economics
1923. 104 pp. brown cloth spine w/ gray boards black lettering & framing; Book shows light wear to ends of spine w/ bumping & a little wear to corners of boards esp. bottom; darkening & some foxing to edges of page block w/ some light foxing to endnapers; prev. owner's gift note to front endpaper / The inscription to the book's front endpaper reads "With luck to Brother Fortman Wm. E. Reddin." There is in fact a William E. Reddin mentioned on page 71 as part of the section entitled "Canonization of Crime" in a list of officers and members of the Bridge & Structural Iron Workers Union "convicted of conspiracy in connection with more than 100 outrages committed over a period of five or six years." It reads: "William E. Reddin financial secretary and business agent Local No. 8 Milwaukee Wis.: Original sentence three years; released on bond; refused pardon by President and ordered back to Leavenworth by Circuit Court of Appeals." A reference to Reddin in old court documents I found available online seems to indicate that his offences related to bombings or "dynamiting" as it was referred to at the time. I have made a few small corrections in parentheses to words that seemed misspelled due to problems in OCR scanning: "CRIMINAL LAW § 242 FEDERAL OFFENSESREMOVAL ron TRIAL. I An indictment charging formation of a conspiracy December 1 1906. A to violate federal laws by shipping dynamite or nitroglycerine in inter·state commerce and continuous carrying on of the conspiracy until filing of the indictment specific shipments made in 1910 and 1011 being set forth showing times trains and places of shipment and destination is sufficient to warrant removal of accused as co-conspirators though they did not enter the conspiracy December 1 1906. Ed. Note.-For other cases see Criminal Law Cent. Dig. §§ 500 510; Dec. Dig. § 242. Application by the United States for a warrant to remove William E. Reddin and another to another state for trial. Application granted. Guy D. Goff U. S. Atty." Here is a snippet from an old newspaper: ". . . Dynamiting Gang of Iron Workers Union is Refused Review of Conviction by US . . . Paul J Morrin William E Reddin Michael J Cunnane Michael J Hannan Murray . . ." I'm speculating that Reddin may have been amused or flattered in some way that this obviously anti-union book had referenced him and for that reason signed copies at least one to friends and associates. I also found this from the "History of Ironworkers Local 8" by J. Jamakaya: ". . . federal indictments for conspiracy and transportation of explosives were issued against 42 ironworker leaders at both the International and local levels. One of those charged was Local 8 Business Manager Bill Reddin . . . Members of Local 8 now rallied around their own leader Bill Reddin. He was tried in federal court in Indianapolis found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison. An appeal was denied and he ultimately served two years and three months at Leavenworth prison. But members of Local 8 were convinced of Reddin's integrity. Just weeks before his trial they presented him with a gold watch and chain as a token of their 'esteem and confidence.' Upon his return to Milwaukee in 1916 he was greeted by a crowd of union supporters and Local 8 and the Building Trades Council held a public reception to celebrate. Reddin was immediately re-elected to office and served as Business Manager of Local 8 until his death in 1933." / . Inscribed. Hard Cover. Good /No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover

Los Angeles: Pazifische Presse 1944.

Original editions of the first seven books published by the Pazifische Presse. The Pazifische Presse was the sole representative on the west coast of the United States of those publishers who left Germany and Austria following the rise to power of National Socialists in 1933. Many European refugees came to America and though most settled in New York a large number did go to Los Angeles which became an important center of German-speaking immigration. Artists authors and intellectuals such as Thomas Mann Theodore W. Adorno Bertolt Brecht Fritz Lang and Arnold Schoenberg were but a few who represented the community of Germans exiled from their native land and who produced major works to address the world crisis.

The Pazifische Presse was founded by Ernst Gottlieb and Felix Guggenheim both of whom had emigrated to the west coast in around 1939. The publisher “afforded its participants an arena for presenting the best of Weimar culture not only for the emigree community but for their American friends and colleagues†Jaeger p. 9. They announced the initial publication of seven volumes by distinguished authors who themselves had immigrated to the United States. These included Thomas Mann the Nobel Laureate for literature in 1929 Franz Werfel Bruno Frank Leonhard Frank Alfred Neumann Fredrich Toberg Alfred Döblin and Lion Feuchtwanger. Many of these renowned writers continued to publish during their exile; some even went on to screen writing positions in Hollywood. Most of the authors were selected based upon a personal relationship between them and the publishers.

Gottlieb and Guggenheim worked with Saul and Lillian Marks of the renowned Plantin Press of Los Angeles to print their material. Founded in 1931 and named after Christopher Plantin the famous sixteenth century printer from Antwerps the Marks built a strong reputation as printers of artistic and beautiful works. Each of the first seven volumes of a total of eleven books ultimately released were printed at the Plantin Press in a run of 250 copies; the first 150 copies were the “Subscriber editions†signed by the author and bound in half-leather. The remaining 100 copies were a more simply bound unsigned trade edition.

1. The novella Thamar is a partial pre-printing of the fifth section of Joseph der Ernährer Joseph the Provider later published in December 1943 in Stockholm. This excerpt depicts the story of the young woman Thamar and her education by Jacob. Thomas Mann 1875-1955 was probably Germany’s most influential author of the twentieth century receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1929. He lived in Munich where he wrote some of his most successful novels like Buddenbrooks 1901 Death in Venice 1912 and The Magic Mountain 1924. He emigrated to Switzerland then to Princeton before settling in Southern California where he finished his great tetralogy Joseph and His Brothers in 1942.

2. First and only edition in German; an English version was published the following year. “The story is about the difficulties confronting the Christian and Jewish faiths in Austria after 1938 and about a rabbi who courageously reconstructs a Christian crucifix that had been desecrated by a Nazi swastika.†Franz Werfel 1890-1945 emigrated from Vienna in 1938 and moved to Los Angeles at the end of 1940 living in the Hollywood Hills where he completed his acclaimed novel Das Lied der Bernadette The song of Bernadette 1941 which was later made into a movie.

3. A reprint of the text which was first published in Amsterdam in 1940. The story of a young German who misappropriates the money of a fallen World War I French soldier and suffers the resulting guilt and his path leading to the rise of National Socialism. Bruno Frank 1887-1945 was a novelist lyricist and dramatist. He came to Los Angeles in 1938 where he worked as a scriptwriter in Hollywood.

4. A partial pre-printing the book includes two chapters of the novel by the same title published in 1948 in Amsterdam. The story of a young woman’s formative journey through reality and fantasy.
Leonhard Frank 1882-1961 moved to Los Angeles to accept a contract at Warner Brothers later penning an autobiographical novel Links wo das Herz ist Heart on the left 1952. He returned to Germany in 1950.

5. Also a partial pre-printing of the first and third chapters of the novel Der Pakt published in 1949 in Amsterdam. The first part deals with the childhood of American idealist William Walker; the second part takes place in Southern California. The dramatist and historical novelist Alfred Neumann 1895-1952 wrote two works while living in Los Angeles as well as working for the film industry as a screenwriter. Shelley Sclater John Henry Gurney Edward Hargitt William C. Tait Henry Seebohm Osbert Salvin O. Finsch W. L. Buller R. Bowdler Sharpe Scott B. Wilson; literally all of the great ornithologists throughout the publishing history of this journal. Sclater 1829-1913 a co-founder and editor of Ibis was a well-known and highly productive over 1400 publications ornithologist by trade. He is also remembered for his 1858 paper setting out the faunal regions classification of zoogeography later adopted by Alfred Russel Wallace. He was also secretary of the Zoological Society of London a member of more than forty professional societies at home and abroad and a council member of the Royal Society of London. Assisting him as co-editor of some of the issues was Howard Saunders or A.H. Evans until 1931 when C.B. Ticehurst took over as editor.
Now subtitled the International Journal of Avian Science it is in its present form a peer-reviewed scientific journal which covers ecology conservation behavior palaeontology and taxonomy of birds. For it’s first nearly one hundred years however the journal focused on a more popularistic type of article often introducing species and images to the public for the first time.

A group of friends mostly wealthy collectors of bird specimens founded the British Ornithologists' Union in 1858 with the primary intent of starting an ornithological journal. The first volume of the journal The Ibis appeared in 1859. Lists of species observed by traveling ornithologists and long catalogues of specimens obtained on expeditions filled the journal. “This random fact gathering on distribution persisted unchanged from 1859 to the 1940s.†In her article entitled “The Ibis: Transformations in a Twentieth Century British Natural History Journal†in Journal of the History of Biology October 2004 Volume 37 No. 3 pp. 515–555 Kristin Johnson points out in a much more complete and professional manner the difference between “popular†ornithology and “scientific†ornithology study of the living bird in its natural environment more on a biological aspect the transition of which occurred post-1940. Meanwhile the articles appearing in the Ibis were geared more toward the popularization of the science and the spread of knowledge of geographic distribution and the habits and patterns of the various bird species. John van Voorst (1883-1886); Gurney and Jackson (1887-1903); R.H. Porter (1904-1913); British Ornithologists’ Union (1914-1932 unknown

Mr Serjeant Ballantine [William Ballantine, Serjeant-at-Law] (1812-1887), lawyer and author ['The English Resident', journal; Bo
Mr. Serjeant Ballantine William Ballantine Serjeant-at-Law lawyer and author. Substantial Autograph Letter Signed praising 'a new family paper called "The English Resident"' with regard to 'English sojourners' in Boulogne-sur-Mer.
'Boulogne s/m June 18 1883'. See his entry in the Oxford DNB. 2pp 4to. On first leaf of bifolium. Forty-three lines of neat text. In fair condition lightly aged and worn with a few small closed tears. The author 'Sir' is unnamed but is presumably the 'Editor' referred to in the text. Signed 'Wm Ballantine'. By recipient at head of first page: 'Letter from Mr Sergeant sic Ballantine / United Club -'. Begins: 'I have to acknowledge the receipt of what purports to be a specimen of a new family paper called "The English Resident" & which it is supposed will supply a want existing especially amongs the English sojourners of all descriptions in different French places of resort. & notably at this one of the most favourable watering places of the British people - Those who favoured me with the number in question were aware that for many years of a busy life there has rarely been a year during which upon more than one occasion I have not sought health and recreation uponits shores. I have had abundant opportunities of appreciating its advantages & recognizing its wants and I welcome very heartily the probabl advent of a newspaper which appears to be conducted upon principles likely to render it a very popular addition.' The second half of the letter is in much the same highfallutin tone see reference to 'the freedom and elasticity of Boulogne air' with Ballantine feeling that is is 'impertinent on my part to offer hints to an Editor so evidently experienced as the Gentleman who has supplied news in the number that I have had the pleasure of reading'. See Image of second page. 'Boulogne s/m June 18 1883'. unknown

Humphry Sandwith III (1792-1874), physician and first editor of the Methodist journal 'The Watchman':
Humphry Sandwith III physician and Methodist. Autograph Letter Signed to 'Rev Mr Walker' asking him to promote a public meeting in Doncaster with reference to 'Mr. Greathead' and 'Revd. Mr. Macguire of Clerkenwell'.
Doncaster Yorkshire. 'Sunday p.m. Feby 14 1864'. 2pp. 12mo. Bifolium. He explains that his 'first object' in calling on Walker was to ask him 'to say a few emphatic words on the subject of the Notice you are requested to read this evening at Waltham Street. I refer to the Public Meeting to be held in the Public Rooms in Jarratt Street on Friday evening next at 7 o'clock.' He complains that 'Mr. Greathead simply read last two words underlined the Notice this morning; and unluckily he did this while the boxes were being circulated for the Chapel Fund Collection' and that 'the reading of it would if heard at all make little impression'. He has invited the 'Revd. Mr. Macguire of Clerkenwell' to be his guest and his lecture will be on 'Romanism its fall and decline abroad and its rise and progress at home'. He concludes with his 'second object in calling': to invite Walker to supper after the lecture. [ Doncaster, Yorkshire. ] 'Sunday p.m. | Feby 14 1864'. unknown

Samuel Carter Hall [ S C Hall ] (1800-1889), editor of the of the Art Journal and New Monthly Magaziner, his wife Anna Maria Hal
Samuel Carter Hall and his wife: their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary. Printed keepsake poem by Hall titled '54! Anniversary' with autograph signatures 'S. C. Hall.' and 'Anna Maria Hall'.
Without date or place. Firfield near Addlestone Sussex; 1878. . Printed in lilac on one side of a 12 x 85 cm piece of thin card with serated edges and rounded corners and with glue staining to one edge and on blank reverse. The card is embossed with tiny stars with decorative edges and the text enclosed within an oval border with the autograph signatures above one another in a rectangular box beneath it. The twelve-line poem signed in type 'S. C. HALL.' might be viewed as an example of Victorian sentimentality but one should bear in mind the childless couple and Mrs Hall's failed pregnancies the fact that her mother lived with them throughout their marriage and their great benevolence. The poem begins: 'Yes! we go gently down the hill of life And thank our God at every step we go: The husband-lover and the sweetheart-wife. Of creeping age what do we care or know' Concludes: 'These fading faculties are sent to say Heaven is more near to-day than yesterday.' The poem was published in 1878 in the Literary World. Without date or place. [ Firfield, near Addlestone, Sussex; 1878. ] unknown

J.G. Pfister; Numismatics Autograph Letter Signed "J.G. Pfister" to C. Roach Smith fellow-numismatist on an abstruse "coin" issue. a "fibula" broach or clasp
British Museum 18 January 1856. One page 12mo fold marks grubby but text clear and complete. "It appears to me that the fibula broach or clasp in question is of the XIthe century and represents a still ruder imitation of the rude Munus Divinus of Louis-Le-Debonaire. It was for several centuries the custom in France that all sort of coins or imitations of coins in all the different metals bearing portraitrs with names or religious legends & were given as mariage presents. And of course such gifts served also for other sacred and religious ceremonies. And afterwards formed into fibulae an addition in smaller hand. I may also yet observe suppose a Person's name was Ludovicus I do not see why he should not have presented /: in those days -:/ such a fibula according to circumstances either in gold silver or copper to his betrothed." Rice of the Cessna Aircraft Company Regression Analysis Method to Produce Bombing Tables submitted by I. B. Thaleshvar of the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake and A Computer Program for Aircraft Identification and Derivative Extraction submitted by Richard Hector David Maunder and Eugene Cliff;. The Society of Flight Test Engineers is a fraternity of engineers whose principal professional interest is the flight testing of aerospace vehicles. The Editor Edward N. Bradfield was employed for 35 years as a flight test engineer by the Air Force Flight Test Center Edwards Air Force Base California and later by the Northrop Grumman Corporation. His work included performance/flying qualities testing and systems evaluations on a variety of Air Force Navy and civilian aircraft including the B-l and B-2 bombers B-52G Cruise Missile Carrier F5F KC-135R Tanker C-5A Wing Modification C-130 YC-14 STOL Transport Boeing 737 French Mirage G P-1127 OV-1 A-4 and numerous classified aircraft programs some of which are on display in the Smithsonian Air and Space museum. Flight testing is a branch of aeronautical engineering that develops and gathers data during flight of an aircraft or atmospheric testing of launch vehicles and reusable spacecraft and then analyzes the data to evaluate the integrity and aerodynamic flight characteristics of the vehicle in order to validate the design including safety aspects. The flight test phase accomplishes two major tasks: 1 finding and fixing any design problems and then 2 verifying and documenting the vehicle capabilities for government certification or customer acceptance. The flight test phase can range from the test of a single new system for an existing vehicle to the complete development and certification of a new aircraft launch vehicle or reusable spacecraft. Therefore the duration of a particular flight test program can vary from a few weeks to many years. Military programs differ from commercial in that the government contracts with the aircraft manufacturer to design and build an aircraft to meet specific mission capabilities. These performance requirements are documented to the manufacturer in the aircraft specification and the details of the flight test program among many other program requirements are spelled out in the statement of work. In this case the government is the customer and has a direct stake in the aircraft's ability to perform the mission. Since the government is funding the program it is more involved in the aircraft design and testing from early-on. Often military test pilots and engineers are integrated as part of the manufacturer's flight test team even before first flight. The final phase of the military aircraft flight test is the Operational Test OT. OT is conducted by a government-only test team with the dictate to certify that the aircraft is suitable and effective to carry out the intended mission. Flight testing of military aircraft is often conducted at military flight test facilities. The US Navy tests aircraft at Naval Air Station Patuxent River and the US Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base. The U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School and the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School are the programs designed to teach military test personnel. The make-up of the Flight Test Team will vary with the organization and complexity of the flight test program however there are some key players who are generally part of all flight test organizations. The leader of a flight test team is usually a flight test engineer FTE or possibly an experimental test pilot. Other FTEs or pilots could also be involved. Other team members would be the Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer Instrumentation System Technicians the aircraft maintenance department mechanics electrical techs avionics technicians etc. Quality/Product Assurance Inspectors the ground-based computing/data center personnel plus logistics and administrative support. Engineers from various other disciplines would support the testing of their particular systems and analyze the data acquired for their specialty area. Since many aircraft development programs are sponsored by government military services military or government-employed civilian pilots and engineers are often integrated into the flight test team. The government representatives provide program oversight and review and approve data. Government test pilots may also participate in the actual test flights possibly even on the first/maiden flight. Danhof Flight Test Center Edwards AFB. The original souvenir edition was issued on December 15 1939 Premiere Day of "Gone With The Wind". Every Ad and Every Article Pertains to "Gone With The Wind". The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is the only major daily newspaper in the metropolitan area of Atlanta Georgia. It is the flagship publication of Cox Enterprises. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is the result of the merger between The Atlanta Journal and The Atlanta Constitution. The two staffs were combined in 1982. Separate publication of the morning Constitution and the afternoon Journal ended in 2001 in favor of a single morning paper under the Journal-Constitution name. The Atlanta Journal was established in 1883. Founder E. F. Hoge sold the paper to Atlanta lawyer Hoke Smith in 1887. After the Journal supported presidential candidate Grover Cleveland in the 1892 election Smith was named as Secretary of the Interior by the victorious Cleveland. Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Margaret Mitchell worked for the Journal from 1922 to 1926. Important for the development of her 1936 Gone With the Wind were the series of profiles of prominent Georgia Civil War generals she wrote for The Atlanta Journal's Sunday magazine the research for which scholars believe led her to her work on the novel. The Journal carried the motto "Covers Dixie like the Dew". About 300000 people came out in Atlanta for the film's premiere at the Loew's Grand Theatre on December 15 1939. It was the climax of three days of festivities hosted by Mayor William B. Hartsfield which included a parade of limousines featuring stars from the film receptions thousands of Confederate flags and a costume ball. Eurith D. Rivers the governor of Georgia declared December 15 a state holiday. An estimated 300000 Atlanta residents and visitors lined the streets for seven miles to view the procession of limousines that brought stars from the airport. Only Leslie Howard and Victor Fleming chose not to attend: Howard had returned to England due to the outbreak of World War II and Fleming had fallen out with Selznick and declined to attend any of the premieres. Hattie McDaniel was also absent as she and the other black cast members were prevented from attending the premiere due to Georgia's Jim Crow laws which kept them from sitting with their white colleagues. Upon learning that McDaniel had been barred from the premiere Clark Gable threatened to boycott the event but McDaniel persuaded him to attend. President Jimmy Carter later recalled it as "the biggest event to happen in the South in my lifetime". Gone with the Wind is a 1939 American epic historical romance film adapted from the 1936 novel by Margaret Mitchell. The film was produced by David O. Selznick of Selznick International Pictures and directed by Victor Fleming. Set in the American South against the backdrop of the American Civil War and the Reconstruction era the film tells the story of Scarlett O'Hara Vivien Leigh the strong-willed daughter of a Georgia plantation owner following her romantic pursuit of Ashley Wilkes Leslie Howard who is married to his cousin Melanie Hamilton Olivia de Havilland and her subsequent marriage to Rhett Butler Clark Gable. It received positive reviews upon its release in December 1939. The casting was widely praised. At the 12th Academy Awards it received ten Academy Awards eight competitive two honorary from thirteen nominations including wins for Best Picture Best Director Fleming Best Adapted Screenplay posthumously awarded to Sidney Howard Best Actress Leigh and Best Supporting Actress Hattie McDaniel becoming the first African American to win an Academy Award. It set records for the total number of wins and nominations at the time. Gone with the Wind was immensely popular when first released. It became the highest-earning film made up to that point and held the record for over a quarter of a century. When adjusted for monetary inflation it is still the highest-grossing film in history. It was re-released periodically throughout the 20th century and became ingrained in popular culture. The film has been credited with triggering changes in the way in which African Americans were depicted cinematically. The film is regarded as one of the greatest films of all time and in 1989 it became one of the twenty-five inaugural films selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. The Journal of Technology Transfer Volume 19 Nos. 3-4 December 1997
Indianapolis IN: The Technology Transfer Society 1994. Presumed First Edition First printing thus. Wraps. Very good. 116 pages plus covers. References. Illustrations. Author Brief Biographies inside back cover. Technology transfer is the process of transferring disseminating technology from the places and in groups of its origination to wider distribution among more people and places. It occurs along various axes: among universities from universities to businesses from large businesses to smaller ones from governments to businesses across borders both formally and informally and both openly and surreptitiously. Often it occurs by concerted effort to share skills knowledge technologies methods of manufacturing samples of manufacturing and facilities among governments or universities and other institutions to ensure that scientific and technological developments are accessible to a wider range of users who can then further develop and exploit the technology into new products processes applications materials or services. It is closely related to and may arguably be considered a subset of knowledge transfer. The Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer FLC is a U.S.-based nationwide network of federal laboratories that provides the forum to develop strategies and opportunities to help transfer laboratory mission technologies into commercial products for the global marketplace. The FLC was organized in 1974 and formally chartered by the Federal Technology Transfer Act of 1986. Its host agency is the National Institute of Standards and Technology. More than 250 federal laboratories and centers and their parent departments and agencies are currently FLC members. The FLC's mission is to promote and facilitate the movement of federal laboratory research results and technologies into the U.S. economy. The FLC develops and tests transfer methods addresses barriers provides training highlights grassroots transfer efforts and emphasizes national initiatives in which technology transfer has a role. The FLC brings laboratories together with potential developers and users of government-owned technologies. The Technology Transfer Society paperback

France's First Atomic Explosion
New Your: Ambassade de France Service de Presse et D'Information Embassy of France Press and Information Service 1960. Presumed First Edition First printing thus. Staplebound. Fair. 4 and 34 2 pages. Illustrations. Some page discoloration. Some ink notations marks to cover page names and affiliations and comments on page 34. This is a four page press release announcing the first French atomic explosive test. Attached is an English Translation of the French "White Paper" Advance Edition. This is a 38 page document of which 34 pages are numbered and the front and back sheets are not. The last sheet has a chart of the Organization of Research and Development Manufacture and testing of Nuclear Weapons. Page 34 is a list of the French Defense Ministers from June 1953 to June 1958 to which in ink additions have been made bringing the list up to circa 1960. The Press Release addresses: Why How Where The White Paper has a Summary Preamble Historical Survey The Role and Action of the CEA The Role and Action of the Ministre des Armees and Cost. Gerboise Bleue "blue jerboa" was the name of the first French nuclear test. It was an atomic bomb detonated near Reggane in the middle of the Algerian Sahara desert on 13 February 1960 during the Algerian War 1954-62. General Pierre Marie Gallois was instrumental in the endeavor and earned the nickname of père de la bombe A "father of the A-bomb". On February 13 1960 at 6:04 AM GMT the plutonium filled Gerboise Bleue was detonated atop a steel tower with an altitude of 100m. The command post was located 16 kilometers away from the blast. In order to study the immediate effects military equipment was placed at varying distances from the epicenter while jets flew overhead to take samples of radioactive particles. No journalists were allowed on site; instead an eyewitness account was given to the French press saying "the desert was lit up by a vast flash followed 45 seconds later by an appreciable shock-wave; an "enormous ball of bluish fire with an orange-red centre" gave way to the typical "mushroom" cloud" With Gerboise Bleue France became the fourth nuclear power after the United States the USSR and the United Kingdom. Prior to this test there had been no nuclear detonations for 15 months. Gerboise Bleue was by far the largest first test bomb up to that date larger than the American "Trinity" 20 kt the Soviet "RDS-1" 22 kt or the British "Hurricane" 25 kt. The yield was 70 kilotons bigger than these three bombs put together. In comparison Fat Man the Nagasaki bomb was 22 kilotons one-third as powerful. As the atomic yield of a new bomb design cannot be precisely predicted the French army planned an explosion between 60 and 70 kt. Gerboise Bleue was a total success yielding the full designed power. However because of the bomb's irregularly high yield some experts believe that the bomb may have been "overfilled with plutonium to assure success". Only two other A-bombs tested in the Sahara facilities were more powerful: "Rubis" . Ambassade de France, Service de Presse et D'Information [Embassy of France, Press and Information Service] unknown
