Very Good. 8vo. 20 by 11.5 cm. 28 pp. Notable aspect of this thin catalogue is the eight pages devoted to caricature portraits of celebrities of the day -- Waldeck-Rousseau Boni de Castellane General Andre etc. These drawings were done by Noël Dorville a famous newspaper caricaturist of the day and a frequent contributor to the humor magazine "L'Assiette au Beurre". The hats on offer range from top hats to bowlers panamas boaters safari -- the full panoply of men's hats popular back when. While men's headgear is the primary thrust of the catalogue there are two pages of hats for women two pages of men's outerwear coats and a page of canes and umbrellas. Overall this is a handsome catalogue that sought to spare itself from being discarded upon receipt with its touch of levity. Condition: light soiling on the wraps. Clean within. Devambez unknown

One of the more cunning and unusual children's books of the early 1900's this mammoth book was expertly produced with strong linen hinges and all the pages printed onto very thick cardboard leaves. With such mechanical limitations to overcome the publishers succeeded in producing a monumentally pleasing work with brightly colored illustrations in the form of full-page color images half-page colored line drawings and head and tailpieces initials and embellishments throughout by Constance Irving. The book is seldom seen in its original wrapper. In publisher's quarter tan cloth with tan paper-covered boards. Titles and clock illustration printed in colour to upper board. With rare original dust-jacket mirroring upper board. Very light wear to upper fore-edges. Jacket heavily browned as expected with some significant chipping to edges especially upper rear cover edge and the top and bottom edges of the spine which feature some larger losses. Printed on thick card linen-hinged. Tall folio measuring 15 x 9.5". Cloth backed pictorial boards. Delightful rhymes featuring the hours of the day from morning to school-time dinner time etc. Beautifully illustrated and unusually bound. Heavy wear to covers; scuffing bumping. Some page creasing. Browning and grubby marks to pages. One of last pages has surface paper damage/lifting. Published by Oxford University Press hardcover
