Three-quarter leather binding; hinges and joints splitting but covers still attached; leather corners and spine bumped and abraded; spine worn and chipped at top and bottom. Contents overall in very good condition. Volume includes each installment of Charles Dickens' "Mystery of Edwin Drood" "from the author's advance sheets with original illustrations" which as a consequence of the author's death terminates at Chapter 23 -- roughly half way through the intended novel. Also present in the volume are five full-page illustrations by Winslow Homer "High Tide" "Low Tide" "The Robin's Note" "Chestnutting" and "Trapping in the Adirondacks." Other artists featured in the volume include C. G. Bush W. L. Sheppard Harrison Weir F.O.C. Darley and many more. There is extensive coverage of the Franco-Prussian War with numerous illustrations including two double-page bird's-eye views of Paris.
