Chabrol Claude director screenwriter; Robert Cohen still photographer; Sylvia Kristel Charles Vanel Jean Carmet starring
Alice or the Last Escapade Alice ou la derniere fugue Two photographs from the set of the 1977 film
France: Filmel 1986. Two photographs for airings of the 1977 film on French public television channel France 3. The first photograph for a September 6 1978 airing is borderless and shows director Chabrol and star Kristel in between takes with the stamp of photographer Robert Cohen and a mimeo snipe on the verso. The second photograph for an October 2 1986 airing is of a topless Sylvia Kristel with a mimeo snipe on the verso. Chabrol riffs on both "Alice in Wonderland" and the popular 1970s horror mini-genre where a beautiful young woman becomes trapped through supernatural means in a house after seeking shelter there. In this case it's "Emmanuelle" star Sylvia Kristel whose car breaks down in the middle of the night after she walks out on her husband and Chabrol is more interested in her journey toward emancipation than actual horror. Both photographs 7 x 5 inches. Fine. Filmel unknown

Jason and the Argonauts Post-production screenplay for the 1963 film
London: Morningside Worldwide Pictures 1975. Early Revised Draft script for the 1963 British-American film dated two years prior to its release. First generation reproduction likely made for educational purposes circa early-mid 1970s evidenced by the use of a photocopy process not employed in the UK until the early 1970s. The script's vintage is also evidenced by the postal code on the front wrapper which includes an "outward code" a system not introduced in the UK until 1967 and not put into widespread use until the 1970s. Not being offered as a vintage item but strictly as the content of the complete script. Jason Armstrong rightful heir to the throne of Thessaly is spared from death through the intervention of the goddess Hera Honor Blackman who then helps Jason in his search for the Golden Fleece. Obstacles along his path include a giant statue screeching harpies huge rocks the seven-headed hydra and an army of skeletons with a nod from Sam Raimi in his 1992 cult classic "Army of Darkness". Associate producer and special effect legend Ray Harryhausen provided all the great effects here generally considered even by Harryhausen himself to be his greatest effort. Shot on location in Italy. Cream wrappers with paper title label. Title page present dated aug. 6th 1961 with credits for screenwriters Read Cross and Ray Bowers uncredited upon the film's release. 145 leaves with last page of text numbered 152. Chandler Raymond screenwriter; Frank Partos screenwriter; Irving Pichel director; Rachel Field novel; Frank Partos screenwriter
And Now Tomorrow Original screenplay for the 1944 film
Hollywood: Paramount Pictures 1943. Revised Draft script for the 1943 film. Co-written for the screen by Raymond Chandler and Frank Partos. Chandler's contribution to the script had mostly to do with Alan Ladd's character and his tough dialogue elements sneered at by the media upon the film's release. Laid in is an 8-page shooting schedule on blue stock a 6-page revision to sequence "A" on yellow onionskin stock and 14 pages of "inter-office communication" on yellow studio stationery comments on scenes sequences and pages of the script. Based on Rachel Field's 1942 novel about Emily Blair Loretta Young a wealthy deaf girl whose hometown is named for her family. Doctor Vance Ladd who grew up on the other side of town resents the Blair family but is working on a serum to cure deafness which he tries on Emily and she is eventually cured. One of only five screenplays written by Chandler this being the second following his script for the classic "Double Indemnity" 1944 based on James M. Cain's novel. Chandler had a tumultuous career in Hollywood including a suspension in late 1945 from Paramount for "refusing to perform under a contract which is not a proper expression of my standing in the motion picture business" but his influence on film adaptation is nearly unmatched with scripts and stories that pushed the limits of the Production Code Administration. Script: White self wrappers production No. SF 8577 dated December 3 1943 with credits for screenwriters Partos and Chandler. Title page integral with front wrapper in the Paramount style. 137 leaves mimeograph duplication with blue and light blue revision pages throughout dated variously between 1/11/43 possibly a typo and 3/30/44 other leaves dated variously between 12/3/43 and 12/5/44 possibly a typo. Pages Near Fine wrapper now encapsulated in mylar with cello tape and spine label remnants bound with two gold brads. Shooting Schedule: Corner-stapled blue stock noted as 4TH TENTATIVE BLUE / BASED ON A-B-C-D-E PART SEQUENCES dated 12/13/43 start and 2/9/44 close with credits for director Pichel assistant director O. Oscar Rudolph and business manager B. Bernard McEveety. 8 pages folded horizontally rust to the staple else Near Fine. Revision: Yellow onionskin stock loose but bound with a paperclip. Holograph annotations in pencil to the last leaf recto and verso detailing a few scene changes. 6 pages folded horizontally paperclip indentation and rust to the clip else Near Fine. Inter-Office Communication: Corner-stapled yellow studio stationery dated variously between 2/15/43 and 1/3/44. The earliest dated page contains notes on the script noting Talbot Jennings as the screenwriter. 14 pages hole punches at the top edges rust to the staples else Near Fine. The Big Sleep Original Pressbook
Beverly Hills CA: Incorporated Television Company / United Artists 1978. Original black-and-white US pressbook for the 1978 British film "The Big Sleep" directed and written for the screen by Michael Winner based on the 1939 crime novel by Raymond Chandler. Starring Robert Mitchum Sarah Miles Richard Boone Candy Clark Joan Collins Edward Fox John Mills and James Stewart. Chandler's novels have always had some difficulty transferring to film and this version not to be confused with the Howard Hawks film noir starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall holds to that belief. Set in a rather clean-looking London with an aging Mitchum cast as Philip Marlowe this version seems tame comparatively. 8 pages 11 x 17 inches saddle-stitched. Easily Near Fine with light rubbing and a very faint horizontal fold at the center. Spicer p. 425. Incorporated Television Company / United Artists unknown

Chandler Raymond screenwriter; George Marshall director; Alan Ladd Veronica Lake starring
The Blue Dahlia Post-production script for the 1945 film
Hollywood: Paramount Pictures 1945. Post-production Release Dialogue Script for the 1946 film. The only script associated with the legendary noir that we have ever seen and presumably the earliest continuity dated 7 months prior to the film's release. "The Blue Dahlia" got off to a shaky start as Raymond Chandler could not finish the screenplay on schedule and was finally under the gun from Paramount to turn in a script with only 2 weeks to go. Chandler reportedly began a non-stop diet of alcohol and glucose injections ultimately meeting the deadline and turning in his only original screen story a hard-boiled gem that was the equal of any of his novels. A recognized gem as well: Chandler received an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay. Alan Ladd played the Chandler anti-hero to perfection opposite Veronica Lake during a period when she could basically do no wrong. Tall white studio self-wrappers dated September 21 1945 with the sole screenwriting credit for Chandler on the first page. 66 leaves mimeograph duplication side-stitched. Very Good condition with a small bit of tearing at one of the staples and curl to a couple of corners. In a custom clamshell box with matching folding chemise. Paramount Pictures unknown

Mockery Terror The Harelip Original screenplay for the 1927 film
Beverly Hills CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer MGM 1927. Draft script for the 1927 silent film "Mockery" seen here under two early draft titles "Terror" and "The Harelip." Lon Chaney is a half-witted Russian peasant who is promised food and a place to live if he escorts a Countess Bedford safely home. He does so despite becoming caught up in the Bolshevik revolution and even moreso in a case of terminally unrequited love for the countess. Danish director Christensen is best known for his avant garde work and in particular the seminal documentary "Haxan: Witchcraft through the Ages" 1922. Between 1922 and 1929 Christensen made films for MGM and Warner Brothers/First National this being one of his last silent films. Like many of the films from the silent era many unusually bold turns are made with many touches that affirm Christensen's status as an auteur. The film was rediscovered and restored in the 1970s. Tan titled wrappers rubber-stamped copy No. 0378 and production No. 1608 dated May 18 1927 with credits for screenwriter Bradley King. Title page integral with the first page of the text dated May 17 1927 with credits for screenwriters Bradley King and Benjamin Christensen. 133 leaves with unnumbered leaves. Ditto style mimeograph duplication. Pages Very Good plus wrapper Good bound with two gold brads. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer [MGM] unknown
