A rare and important early edition of Molière's works reproducing the 1682 first collected edition. An excellent example complete with all plates and in attractive contemporary bindings. Questa edizione è la terza edizione illustrata delle opere di Moliere, la seconda edita da Thierry, Barbin et Trabouillet uscita peer la prima volta nel 1682 e seguita da una seconda edizione illustrata delle opere di Moliere nel 1692 edita a Lione da Jaques Lions ma considerata sia graficamente che filologicamente di molto inferiore a questa. L’edizione del 1697 è molto più rara della stessa edizione del 1682. L’opera riprende l’edizione del 1682, modernizzandone l’ortografia, mutando la composizione e l’impaginazione ed è considerata, proprio con l’edizione del 1682, la più completa e corretta delle edizioni delle opere di Moliere stampate nel XVII° secolo. I primi 6 tomi contengono le opere già edite prima della morte di Moliere, oltre alla vita dello stesso, mentre gli ultimi due volumi le opere postume. La prefazione del primo volume è scritta da un contemporaneo di Moliere e probabilmente anche suo amico, l’attore teatrale Lagrange (1639-1692). Scrive A.-J. Guibert a proposito di questa edizione «Les variantes imposées par la Censure au "Don Juan" du tome VII et celles découvertes dans la "Comtesse d'Escarbagnas" au tome VIII, lui confèrent un remarquable intérêt littéraire et bibliophilique». Mentre Jules Le Petit definisce questa edizione “C'est le texte qui a le plus souvent servi de modèle pour les nombreuses éditions données jusqu'à nos jours». Alla fine del Volume VIII vi è un’opera di William Marcoureau Brécourt (1638-1685) dal titolo "L'ombra del Molière". Questo pezzo che venne ufficialmente portato in scena una sola volta marzo 1674 presso l'Hotel de Bourgogne, è una commedia curiosa in uno stile abbastanza diffuso nel XVII secolo. Raro, rarissimo nella sua legatura originale ed in buone condizioni di conservazione. A good copy, rare. Rif. Starring actors Meyer Seigner Marie Sabouret and Micheline Boudet figure prominently in the images in lavish period costumes. A few have layout annotations either on the glassine sleeve or on an affixed glassine slip. Laid in is a signed typescript letter from "Y. Guillot" addressed to Gay Lussac at Cinedis the film's distribution company and dated 1960. Guillot was "Le Chef du Service des Editions" and he thanks Lussac for sending him "ektachromes" from the film promising to include images in upcoming issues of his publication. Housed in an original French Crumiere paper photo box with annotations in manuscript ink and pencil on the lid. <br /> <br /> Based on Moliere's 1670 five-act play "Le Bourgeois gentilhomme" about social climbing and the bourgeois personality. Seigner plays Jourdain middle-aged and aspiring to aristocracy. He learns fencing dancing music and philosophy constantly making a fool of himself. The second adaptation of Moliere's play after Humberto Gómez Landero's "El gran Makakikus 1944 and preceding Roger Coggio's "Le bourgeois gentilhomme" 1982. <br /> <br /> 18 transparencies 3.25 x 4.5 inches 1 two-frame transparency 2.25 x 4.75 inches.
