A Parigi Alvaro soggiorna dalla fine del 1921 al luglio 1922; vi è invitato nel 1936 per l'anniversario del Simbolismo e visita Rouen, Bourges e la Provenza; nell'ottobre 1950, è corrispondente del quotidiano "La stampa" a Parigi. Nella cinquantina di articoli, nelle dieci novelle, di cui tre mai pubblicate se non in quotidiani o periodici, nelle venti lettere e negli appunti dei diari, si delinea una visione di Parigi estremamente originale. La metropoli, che sa tornare campestre all'alba, delle corrispondenze di Corrado Alvaro fa poemetti in prosa, e a chi sa scoprirla rivela la creatività, essendo Parigi l'invenzione di ognuno e la patria di tutti.

Very Good Turkish Original typescript invitation signed by Bedrettin Tuncel. 13,5x21,5 cm. In Turkish. Six lines. 1 p. A formal invitation for the general director B. S. Hollinshead's visit to Turkey with the letterhead of "UNESCO Turkey Commission of the United Nations Science and Culture Foundation in Ankara". Bedrettin Tuncel was a former academic and a politician in Turkey. Born in 1910 in Tirebolu of Giresun Province, he graduated from Galatasaray High School in 1932. For higher education, he went to France to study French literature. He graduated from the Lumière University Lyon 2 in 1936. In Turkey, he served at Ankara University for 35 years. He also lectured on the history of Art in the conservatory of Ankara for 10 years. After 27 July 1963, he served as the speaker of the Turkish National Committee of UNESCO. After the 1960 Turkish coup d'etat in addition to his academic works, he was also appointed as the representative of universities in the Constituent Assembly of Turkey. In the 24th government of Turkey, he served as the Minister of National Education. But during the democratic regime after 1961, he returned to his academic life.

br. Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, in arte Molière raccontato in un saggio che mette a nudo, tra successi e insuccessi, la sua opera e la critica sociale sugli aspetti odiosi di un mondo in palese decadenza: piccineria, ipocrisia, supponenza, gelosia, avarizia, adulazione, conformismo, vigliaccheria. Molière teatrante che ha partecipato alla messa in scena di una Francia apparentemente splendida, sotto la regia di un essere semi-divino, il Re Sole, nel lusso più sfrenato, mentre l'aristocrazia se ne infischiava se nelle strade di Parigi la gente moriva di fame o se i contadini erano sfruttati senza ritegno come servi della gleba. Una satira dunque, tra amori, opere e lati oscuri, che sembra sputare nel piatto nel quale lo stesso commediografo mangiava, ma sapendo sempre comportarsi bene a tavola. In questo saggio Molière sembra un umorista propenso a mantenere le proprie critiche nel limite del possibile, trascurando le tragedie sociali autentiche e soprattutto le canagliate compiute da chi della piramide sociale occupava il vertice.

Il volume, riccamente illustrato, è una vera sorpresa per gli occhi del lettore, che viene accompagnato all'interno delle diverse sezioni del libro con lo scopo di celebrare il 400° anniversario della nascita del celebre autore, attore e commediografo francese: Molière! Oltre 150 costumi teatrali, così come una collezione di modelli e fotografie costituiscono l'importante apparato iconografico del volume e mettono in luce diversi temi che hanno legato Molière al costume di scena. Selezionati perché oggetti singolari ed emblematici di un regista - Dom Juan di Louis Jouvet, Dandin di Roger Planchon o Le Malade imaginaire di Jean-Marie Villégier - o di un costumista come Suzanne Lalique, Christian Bérard o Patrice Cauchetier. I costumi divengono quindi il riflesso di particolari tendenze: talvolta si tratta di ricostituzione storica, altre di moda del tempo o di trasposizione storica, ma non mancano prodotti dell'immaginazione di un designer. Le opere e i costumi provengono anzitutto dalle collezioni del Centre national du costume de scène di Moulins, dalla Comédie-Française e dal Dipartimento delle Arti dello Spettacolo della Bibliothèque National de France, ma non mancano prestiti di teatri, compagnie o istituzioni culturali, quali il Théâtre national populaire di Villeurbanne e la Maison Jean Vilar. Il libro accompagna la grande mostra intitolata "Molière en costumes" organizzata dal Centre national du costume de scène di Moulins dal 26 maggio al 6 novembre 2022.

br. Ognuno ha un suo classico, ha detto Garboli, cioè "un compagno di veglia, un segreto e inseparabile interlocutore". Il suo, non c'è dubbio, è stato Molière, cui ha dedicato, nel corso di oltre un trentennio, memorabili saggi e rivoluzionarie traduzioni, sino a diventarne "interprete accanito e quasi maniacale". Sempre, occorrerà aggiungere, in un'ottica acutamente teatrale. Non a caso, radunando nel 1976 cinque testi molieriani, Garboli sottolineava di voler offrire "cinque copioni al teatro italiano di oggi, nella presunzione che il teatro di Molière sia portatore di un sistema di idee, di un messaggio che ci è oggettivamente contemporaneo". Epicentro di quel sistema di idee è per lui Tartufo, oltraggiosa figura di servo che - infrangendo "l'antica, dura legge teatrale che fa dell'intelligenza dei servi un privilegio infruttuoso" si cimenta nell'impossibile impresa di farsi padrone, e che dalla servitù si libera "con l'esercizio salutare, rassicurante, medico della politica": sicché la pièce altro non è se non la "diagnosi comica e disperata della struttura politica della realtà, mascherata di valori intoccabili che si autolegittimano grazie alla santità di una causa e si presentano come la guarigione di un male". Il «Dom Juan» di Molière
br. Presentando, nel 1974, il suo Molière, Garboli deplorava come "una sciagura nazionale" che il teatro e la borghesia italiani avessero "saltato" Molière, "così come succede a certi adulti che, nel loro sviluppo, rimuovono una delicata e essenziale fase di crescita". Bastano queste parole a far capire di quale novità fosse portatore il suo lavoro. E dal ceppo di quella storica impresa è nato questo libro segreto ed "essenziale", cui Garboli ha atteso per oltre un ventennio e che considerava il coronamento della sua attività di traduttore e critico molièriano.

Paris: Comedie-Francaise 1958. Collection of 19 original studio still color transparencies from the 1958 French film here under the original French title. Starring actors Meyer Seigner Marie Sabouret and Micheline Boudet figure prominently in the images in lavish period costumes. A few have cropping annotations either on the glassine sleeve or on an affixed glassine slip. Laid in is a signed typescript letter from "Y. Guillot" addressed to Gay Lussac at Cinedis the film's distribution company and dated 1960. Guillot was "Le Chef du Service des Editions" and he thanks Lussac for sending him "ektachromes" from the film promising to include images in upcoming issues of his publication. Housed in an original French Crumiere paper photo box with annotations in holograph ink and pencil on the lid. <br/><br/>Based on Moliere's 1670 five-act play "Le Bourgeois gentilhomme" about social climbing and the bourgeois personality. Seigner plays Jourdain middle-aged and aspiring to aristocracy. He learns fencing dancing music and philosophy constantly making a fool of himself. The second adaptation of Moliere's play after Humberto Gómez Landero's "El gran Makakikus 1944 and preceding Roger Coggio's "Le bourgeois gentilhomme" 1982. <br/><br/>18 transparencies 3.25 x 4.5 inches 1 two-frame transparency 2.25 x 4.75 inches.
