CIHAN ÖZGÜN, MUSTAFA KAYMAKÇI.
Rhodes and Kos Turks: Contributions to the Turkish War of Independence and current problems.
New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 112 p. Turks living in Rhodes and Kos (Istanköy) today have been one of the ancient peoples of the islands since 1522. Finally, the Islands were ceded to Greece with the 1947 Conference of Paris by stipulating in Article l4 that "these islands shall be and remain demilitarized". With the ceding of the islands to Greece, the dramatic condition of the Rhodes and Kos(Istanköy)Turks became increasingly more intolerable. However, the link between the Turks of the island and Turkey, in terms of Awareness of Turkishness and Solidarity as well as socio-economic terms with Turkey, was also a prevalent issue in the past as it is today. In fact, Rhodes and Kos (Istanköy) Turks did not hesitate to extend their support to the National Campaign (Milli Müdafaa), both directly and indirectly, while the Turks fought against the Greek forces under the command of Mustafa Kemal Pasha in Anatolia. They tried to provide contribution to the campaign with the "Rhodes and Kos (Istanköy)Association for the Defense of Islamic Rights" (Rodos ve Istanköy Müdafaa-i Hukuk-i Islamiye Cemiyeti) in 1919. Likewise, the book entitled "Rhodes and Kos: Contributions to the Turkish War of Independence and Current Problems" mainly aims to reveal the contributions of the island Turks to the Turkish War of Independence. This book consists of three consecutive sections. The first section covers the "Contributions of Rhodes and Kos (Istanköy) Turks to the Turkish War of Independence". In the second section, on the other hand, the subject of "The Current Problems of the Rhodes and Kos Turks Stemming from the Turkish-Greek Relations as Regards the Aegean Sea" was addressed. In the third section, the subject of "Recommendations for Transforming Turkish-Greek Relations into a Lasting Friendship" was addressed on a general level and in terms of Rhodes and Kos (Istanköy)Turkishness. Thus, we wished to bring the current problems experienced by the Turks regarding the Turkish-Greek relations into the agenda of the national and international public by establishing a connection with the history of the remaining Turks in the islands.

CIHAN ÖZGÜN, MUSTAFA KAYMAKÇI.
The recent history of the Rhodes and Kos Turks: The silent cry rising in the Aegean Sea.
New English Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. 171 p., ills. The recent history of the Rhodes and Kos Turks. The silent cry rising in the Aegean Sea. There is a Turkish population of about 6,000 people who live in the Dodecanese Islands, mainly Rhodes and Kos. Current problems of Moslem Turks living in the Dodecanese include expressing their Turkish identity freely, having a voice in the administration of the foundations, reativating the functions of the Muftiate, restarting turkish language and religion courses in schools, reopening mosques to religious services and restoring the civil rights and citizenshipstatus of the Dodecanese Turks who had been previously deprived of Greek citizenship. This book aims to investigate through a historical perspective the past and present social and economic status of the island Turks living in Rhodes, Kos and Turkey as well as recording and preserving legends, folk dances, elegies and life stories that are not recorded by documented historiography. The book will also provide the means for communicating the problems of Rhodes and Kos turks in recent history and at persent to the turkish and international public opinion, but especially to the Greek public opinion. In this respect, it also includes some suggestions for the establishment of a long-lasting friendship in Turkish-Greek relations.

EDIPO CLASSICO E CONTEMPORANEO
Book is fine. ; Spudasmata Band 149; 450 pages

Clark, Matthew
OUT OF LINE Homeric Composition Beyond the Hexameter
Very light shelfwear ; Building upon the groundbreaking work of Milman Parry and Albert Lord, "Out of Line" presents a new theory of Homeric composition, focusing upon patterns that extend beyond the boundary of the line and the clause. Matthew Clark takes enjambment as a starting point, analyzing the techniques used by the poet to complete a line that begins with a runover. Clark proceeds to propose two levels of analysis, a "deep-structure" level, which describes the associations of words and ideas before they take metrical form, and a "surface-structure" level, which describes the words as they are employed on any particular occasion. "Out of Line" combines formulaic and metrical analysis, expanding the study of Homeric meter both in practice, by taking into account larger compositional structures such as entire scenes, and in theory, by using the results to test models of formulaic composition. This book is important for students and scholars of Homer, epic, and oral literature. ; 0.83 x 9.29 x 6.19 Inches; 264 pages

Clark, Victoria
Why Angels Fall: a Journey Through Orthodox Europe From Byzantium to Kosovo
Victoria Clark travelled across most of Eastern Europe to write Why Angels Fall. Having worked as a journalist in Romania, the former Yugoslavia and Russia for six years, she was fascinated by the Eastern Orthodox churches and keen to unravel their history and beliefs. To do so she journeyed from Mount Athos, to Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, Romania, Russia, Cyprus and finally Istanbul, interviewing clergy and other believers. We're treated to a series of vivid cameos, a few of whose subjects glow almost visibly with holiness, a few terrify and many show qualities rare and needed in the West. As Clark puts it, after the ancient split between eastern and western Christianity, "each side lost something it could not happily do without . at the risk of over-simplifying for the sake of clarity, western Christendom can be said to have lost its heart, eastern Christendom its mind." Her keenness to explain Orthodoxy to westerners stems from a fear that the continent is in the process of fracturing along a thousand-year-old fault line, between the Catholic and Protestant west and the Orthodox east. The book combines high quality, highly readable travel writing with a powerful mix of politics and religion. Perhaps, most of all, it demonstrates the power of history, and of different peoples' conflicting versions of history.460p.+ plates, map. bibliograpy.index Book
