The Ottoman State had to leave the administration of Cyprus to the United Kingdom through the Treaty in 1878. Thus, the island of Cyprus was administered by the United Kingdom from 1878 until 1960. There were some regulations in every area, including education, on the island during the United Kingdom period. One of these regulations was the opening of new schools on the island. One of these schools was Victoria Girls' School, where girls on the island received education. After the establishment of the Lycee of Cyprus on the island in 1897, the Victoria Girls' School was opened in 1901. The British administration and the Turkish Cypriot philanthropists have come together to cover the construction costs of the Victorian school. In addition, the British colonial administration requested that the name of the school be Victorian in return for the assistance it made for the construction of the school. The school, which started its educational activities in 1902 despite its establishment in 1901, played an important role in the development of contemporary Turkish Cypriot women. Moreover, it can be said that the school had important impacts on the political, cultural and social life of the island. Meanwhile, the school played an important role in the adoption of the Ataturk's Revolutions in Cyprus. Thus, during and after the United Kingdom period, the Victorian Girls' School has become one of the most well-established schools of the island where the Turkish Cypriot girls were educated. In the research, it was explained in chronological order how this educational institution was established and through which phases it passed.‎

The sultans of the Ottoman Empire traditionally shaped the arts of their day, and their enthusiastic reaction to the discovery of photography was to be crucial in the development of photography in the Empire. This third edition of the book published by YEM Publications has been updated and enlarged to incorporate new information gathered over the years and many new photographs that have been added to my archive. I have made sure that the revised text comprises the latest information available on the subject. Many nation states were created in the former Ottoman territories in Europe, Asia and Africa. I have not included the individual photographic histories of these countries but endeavoured to focus primarily on photography within the present boundaries of the Republic of Turkey. A list of photographers who worked in the Ottoman Empire has been provided to assist all those who are interested in the history of photography in Turkey and the Middle East. The names of photographers that I have come across in documents written in Ottoman Turkish script have been given as spelt. The first two editions treated the story of photography in the Ottoman Empire from the announcement of its discovery in 1839 up to 1919, but this new edition has been extended up to the year 1923 when the Turkish Republic was founded. Researching the history of photography is an unending task requiring a lifetime's dedication."‎

Actually, balance and weight examples of Mesopotamian, Egyptian and Hittite civilisations are known from wall paintings, reliefs, papyri and collections. Hakan Gürüney's Tenedos Collection of more than 5,000 documents and objects is exhibited was the highest and most magnificent of the buildings constructed after the 1874 Tenedos fire. It was originally constructed by Dimosten Tulmidis as two adjoining buildings. One of the buildings was two storeys high and the other, three. The side facades of the building were ornamented with the shallowly projecting columns known as pilasters. Photographs of the preiod reveal that there is an open terrace and marble columns on the third storey. After the family that resided there immigrated to Australia in 1950, the building fell into disrepair, and when bricks and marble began to fall into the road from the upper storeys, these floors were demolished, leaving only two one-storey buildings and their foundations. Over time the buildings were used for various purposes, and on 7 June 2006 a protocol was signed designating the building the Tenedos Local History Research Center, a joint project of the Tenedos District Governor's Office and M. Hakan Gürüney, for the purpose of exhibiting the Tenedos Collection".‎

There are over five thousand weights from the Suna and Inan Kiraç Foundation Collection at the Pera Museum, ranging in date from the Ancient Near Eastern Civilizations, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. This large collection will be published in a number of separate volumes as part of the series of Corpus Ponderum Antiquorum et Islamicorum. The first volume covers 635 Greek and Roman weights. The Roman truncated spheres are included in the second volume, which covers the Late Roman and Byzantine weights. The majority of the weights in the Suna and Inan Kirac Foundation Collection were acquired over a period of thirty years by Inan Kirac through various local and international auctions and collectors. The present second volume, completed in a three-year-long study, covers the Late Roman and Byzantine weights in the same collection. The catalogue covers 742 weights, 38 of which are of glass. The majority of the weights were acquired between 2005 and 2008. In the catalogue 201 weights are grouped under the title of "Commercial Weights" while 456 weights are grouped under the title of "Coin Weights". Furthermore, the catalogue covers circular weights with concentric circles and bowl-shaped weights both of which date to the Middle Byzantine Period.‎

The unity of the old urban fabric in the city of Izmir, having thousands of historical and cultural heritage, is rapidly impaired while the "city identity" is changing. Cultural assets such as forts, bastions, walls, public baths, tombs and inscriptions, bridges, aqueducts, houses, mansions, mosques, fountains and cemeteries are all, our shared memories which are worth-appreciating. Basmane and its neighborhood are famous for having intense cultural assets where historical, architectural and archaeological values are treated with great care. The number of the abondoned, moved, burned and ruined characteristics of the city, caused by the misuse or other countable reasons, are increasing day by day. Due to the unauthorized interventions by the non-experts, they are also cut off from the city's historical identity. In my book 'A Souvenir from Izmir' I intended to draw attention of the relevant institutions and organizations to the importance of the cultural assets in this region, to call the authorities for taking the necessary action for the unregistered artifacts and to help researchers in easily finding their places by giving the exact addresses of these artifacts. Because I am conscious of the fact that protecting and preserving the cultural assets is the most meaningful gift that could be left to the next generations. Hereby, I would like to thank Ayse Üngör, director of Ahmet Piristina city archive and Museum of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, and his colleagues Gülsüm Berdan Eren, Buket Ocak, Alev Turhan, Ekrem Tükenmez, Servet Kuru for their efforts in editing, translating and publicating my book; and Asst.
