"Cercare di spiegare come mai Gianni Piacentino abbia oggi un lavoro così stringente e 'contemporaneo' da far apparire i poveristi, dei nonni che disciplinano il traffico all'uscita delle scuole, vuol dire guardare da vicino un tipo d'arte che non ha mai guardato a quello che succedeva attorno e si è sempre espressa come ricerca di semplicità e perfezione. Nato artisticamente nella Torino degli anni sessanta, Gianni Piacentino ha trovato subito la sua strada esponendo a ventuno anni con Sperone nel 1966. Semplicità, tecnologia, perfezione della fattura, concetti forse difficili da esaurirsi in breve, ma che hanno in sé un principio anticorrosivo (non a caso) che è legato alla forma, e a quel versante aristocraticamente chiuso che è pari a quella tensione verso il perfetto. Bellezza ed eternità formano un matrimonio inscindibile a cui il tempo conferisce valore. Piacentino, di là dalla sua magnifica biografia motoristica che continua tuttora, è un artista che non appare mai datato o databile, riconoscibile senza essere ripetitivo" (dall'introduzione di Dehò). Gianni Piacentino esordisce alla metà degli anni Sessanta realizzando prototipi di veicoli con materiali industriali, sculture dalle forme geometriche essenziali realizzate in legno plastificato e verniciato e sviluppando, parallelamente, un'originale idea di pittura.
