Peter Grey
The Two Antichrists (Belarion Edition)
London, Scarlet Imprint, 2011. Belarion Edition, one of the 210 copies printed, this one bearing the number 131. 8vo, 119pp. Single photo plate. Signed by Grey at front. Bound in black bonded leather and emblazoned with the Cross of St Peter on front and back boards, metallic endpapers, dust jacket and lined slipcase with the sign of triumph (an inverted triangle). Beautiful, deluxe edition from Scarlet Imprint. From the publisher: "The Two Antichrists is a monograph on the figure of Antichrist in a post-Christian and progressive Thelemic context. Opening with considerations on the future of witchcraft and its relation to radical ecology, Grey returns to the Babalon Working of Jack Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard, and considers a series of little examined texts from science fiction and the outer fringes of Scientology which form a ‘Babalon Apocrypha.’ By reading across these sources, the familiar story is revealed to have hidden depths and dimensions. Exploring the role of Antichrist in relation to Parsons and Hubbard, Grey provides insights into the initiatory drama of Thelema: of Satanic rites, Abyss and Angel. The Two Antichrists observes the long shadow cast by the monolith of Scientology, and Parsons’ eclipsed sodality The Witchcraft. Looking to the future, he envisions an emergent space witchcraft, infused with the spirit of Do What Thou Wilt. The book concludes with a series of non-denominational rituals and revised Antichrist workings. The work is a fusion of inspiration, research and ritual, from which Grey draws the first lines of his vision of witchcraft in the dusk of our world."

Dorrington. 1p 12mo. The address to ‘Dear Mr. Dorrington’ and signature ‘Peter Pears’ are in autograph; the rest is typed. Written while Britten is dying. Reads: ‘Benjamin Britten wishes me to thank you for your kind message. The envelope is annotated in another hand: ‘B. B. died 4/12/76’. TWO: TLS to ‘Ray Seaton’. 1p 12mo. No more than a note really. Written after Britten’s death. Reads as follows with typed section in square brackets and the rest in autograph: ‘Dear Ray Seaton / Thank you very much indeed for your most kind message. which I much appreciated / Sincerely / Peter Pears’. No place or date but in envelope with Saxmundham postmark dated 15 December 1976 and typed address to ‘Mr. R. P. Seaton / 28 Hollybush Street / PLAISTOW / LONDON E.13.’ THREE: Printed programme. Peter Robb
M: The Man Who Became Caravaggio
Hardcover, 571 pages, ENG, 240 x 170 x 48 mm, dustjacket, in very good condition, with some b/w illustrations, red/black linen with golden imprint, . ISBN 9780805063561. The short, violent life of Michelangelo Merisi -- sometimes called simply M, and known to us as Caravaggio -- changed art forever. In the words of Robert Hughes, 'There was art before him and art after him, and they were not the same.' M threw out accepted technique and dogma to paint from life with dazzling clarity. In the process he laid bare his own sexual longings and the brutal realities of life with shocking frankness. M: The Man Who Became Caravaggio is strikingly different from the usual artist's life: The Times Literary Supplement writes, 'Its hero is wholly, richly alive.' With 'tremendous vigor, dash and swagger' Peter Robb evokes the seething and dangerous world of Italy at the end of the sixteenth century. Caravaggio is seen as a provocateur to a culture riven by the Inquisition and the Counter-Reformation, a background of ideological cold war against which, despite all odds and at great cost to their creators, brilliant feats of art and science were achieved. M was imprisoned for criminal libel and saw his work rejected by Roman churches. A savage street fight nearly killed him and left his enemy bleeding to death. Later, with a price on his head, Caravaggio fled south to Naples and beyond, where he experienced four years of creative triumph and personal catastrophe. After being jailed in Malta for an unnamed crime, and pursued by killers through Sicily and Naples, he disappeared in the summer of 1610. Refuting standard accounts, Robb presents Caravaggio's death in a gripping scenario of sexual vendetta, betrayal, ambush and state collusion -- a startling conclusion to a groundbreaking book.
