The Hebrew title is <i>Dibrë Hayyamim </i>'the words of the days' or more freely 'the eventgs of the times.' The division of the history into two parts 1 and 2 Chronicles may be traced to the Greek Version of the Books which is regarded by some as part of the Septuagint. In this respect they are a continuation of the Books of Kings and constitute our main source of information regarding the fortunes of the captives who returned to Judea to reconstruct their national lire. Their trials and difficulties are vividly recounted. Above all they tell of the ebb of the religion of Israel until the ride turned with the arrival of Ezra. His activities are of more than national importance. He was humanly speaking the means of preserving Judaism which in turn gave birth to the two other great religions of the world. </p><p><b>Shipping/Handling/Insurance/Tracking Included within the continental U.S. Free Shipping. Rev Outram Marshall [Thomas Outram Marshall] (1843-1932), Secretary of the English Church Union, supporter of the Oxford Movemen
‘I want to shew you how very insecure is your foothold’: Rev. Outram Marshall Secretary of the English Church Union. Autograph Letter Signed regarding a letter in the Guardian the Synod of Arles and the teaching of the Church regarding divorce.
7 February 1896. London: 242 Portsdown Road W. 4pp 12mo. Bifolium. Aged worn and with spots of discoloration. 106 lines in a truly execrable hand. The following reading is tentative. The recipient is not named and the letter is signed ‘T. Outram Marshall’. The letter begins: ‘My dear Sir / I also read the letters in the Guardian very carefully’. There follow references to ‘the argument of a pamphlet as to the Teaching of Holy Scripture’. The third paragraph begins: ‘But to my mind the words of the Council of Arles are evidence that in 314 the Bps. there assembled believed just what our Petitioner says.’ He quotes a Latin test and discusses it. There are three long numbered objections. and three assertions are given of which ‘We are convinced’. He discusses what is the case ‘If “the High Ch. Party†is not content with the Scripture & the existing Laws of the English & whole western Ch’. He is glad that the recipient does not agree on one point ‘with the Bp. of London’ ‘But if you do not - what remains - you say the husband of this unfaithful wife - has permission to marry again - then it follows that he has permission to dissolve the bond which till he desides to do so - has not been broken. This is a wholly new theory which as yet no Bp. East or West has fulfilled. / Forgive my writing this - I want to shew you how very insecure is your foothold’. 7 February 1896. London: 242 Portsdown Road, W. unknown

REV. MATTHIAS BEDROSSIAN [MATATHEA PETROSEAN].
[VENETIAN MEKHITARIST IMPRINT / CLASSICAL ARMENIAN / EARLY DICTIONARIES] New dictionary Armenian-English.
Very Good English In contemporary cloth bdg. with flowers embossing. Some foxing and stains on the first pages. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 16 cm). In Armenian and English. [2], [xxx], 786 p., 1 folded table describes the Armenian alphabet with its letters, sound, and pronunciation. With a parallel title page and additional half-title in Armenian and a list of errata and corrigenda. Double-column text. Preface bilingual in Armenian and English. Following that, the second title is 'Short Armenian grammar'. After abbreviations, the dictionary section begins. In the preface, there is a short history and origin of the Armenian language written by Bedrossian according to the conjuncture of the period, followed by his mentions of the necessity of this dictionary for the literature, etc. Rare first edition of this early Armenian - English dictionary printed in Venice by Venetian Mekhitarists. In 1875, Matthias Bedrossian undertook to update earlier Armenian dictionaries, and he succeeded in producing a completely reworked Armenian-English dictionary. The most flourishing period of Venetian Armenians was in the 16th and 17th centuries, especially when Julfa and New Julfa merchants were based in the city. During the same period, Venice also became one of the most important Armenian publishing centers. It was in Venice (1512) that the first Armenian book was published by Hagop Meghabard. Until the founding of the Mekhiterists' printing press in San Lazzaro, there were 19 Armenian printing presses in Venice. (Source: Keghart). Only two copies in OCLC as printed copy in Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire. OCLC 156112892.
