The copy of Bowman Foster Stockwell with his remarkable bookplate on the front paste-down and a note in his hand on the last printed page: `S.S. Andania Sunday March 7 1926.` The sparse bookplate image depicts a map of South America cross and the dictate `Go Ye -.` Stockwell was an American Methodist missionary teacher and scholar who was sent by the Church to Buenos Aires Argentina in 1926 aboard the Andania. He was director of the Union Seminary now La Facultad Evangelica de Teologia and assembled an important collection of books and related materials pertaining to the Spanish Reformation still held by the seminary today. Stockwell also became a Bishop was responsible for the recognition of the seminary as a university and authored several books of theology. An important figure in the history of Christianity in Latin America. VERY GOOD. Livesay Robert Sherebourne Sir David Wilkie James Glaisher from the Royal Observatory Greenwich. Two signed letters to F.J. Smith keeper of prints in the British Museum one from James Northcote the other from Thomas Stothard. Two pictorial signed letters from H. Cowel postmarked York 1816 and 1818 discussing aspects of York architecture Cawood Castle and Nunnery Castle. With various miscellanea including a sheet of the parish register entries for Marston extensive recent genealogical information relative to ancestors and descendants of Arnald a printed portrait of F.J. Smith 1833. With an important collection of SIX ORIGINAL PORTRAITS IN PENCIL of significant fellow Royal Academy members Sir William Chambers Robert Smith jun John Bacon senior Thomas Banks Benjamin West John Flaxman. This compendium of Arnald's fellow-professionals in the arts was probably put together early in his life in the 1780s or 90s. both Chambers and Bacon were dead before 1800. George Arnald while mostly remembered as landscape and topographical painter also was known to a lesser extent as a painter of portraits including Sir Robert Peel Duke of Wellington and William Wordsworth who is known to have bemoaned Arnald's literary ignorance.
