"La liceità dell'eutanasia nella maggior parte dei casi è sostenuta da pensatori che hanno una visione dell'Uomo immanente e si riferiscono ad un'etica di stampo relativista; l'illiceità dell'eutanasia è invece propugnata da pensatori che sostengono una visione della vita umana trascendente e un'etica forte che prevede l'esistenza di principi morali assoluti. Il libro che introduco non vuole, di fronte a questo panorama, ribadire o sostenere una di queste posizioni o criticarle o rassegnarle, e la ragione è semplice: gli autori non vogliono trattare il problema della liceità o della illiceità dell'eutanasia, ma proporre e sviluppare in modo nuovo l'argomento affrontando il tema di come dovrebbe e potrebbe essere l'approccio specifico della Medicina rispetto alla richiesta eutanasica: il trattamento medico della richiesta eutanasica. È significativo che le conclusioni siano in realtà un "call for work": le opinioni presentate sono intese come una proposta per sviluppare interventi di prevenzione della richiesta eutanasica per la quale è necessario un lavoro interdisciplinare molto aperto e molto caratteristico dello spirito universitario." brossura Il tema della Danza Macabra è da intendersi come rappresentazione di uno o più scheletri nell'atto di descrivere passi di danza accompagnandosi a viventi. Si tratta di bambini, donne, vecchi, uomini, caratterizzati da abiti, attrezzi da lavoro o simboli che ne chiariscono l'appartenenza ad un ceto sociale. Nelle immagini di Danza Macabra la morte sembra riprendersi il ruolo che le spetta, quello di referente definitivo, ultima meta del vivente. La morte delle danze macabre s'impone come realtà vera di ogni vivente. Non propone regole da rispettare, non prevede alcun futuro paradisiaco, ma solo la cruda realtà del cadavere, dello scheletro e della sparizione. È l'amore, la passione per la vita, che ci distanziano dalla morte. Cerchiamo, nella riflessione, una modalità che possa ricondurla ad un nostro reale mondo, dimenticando che il sottrarsi alla sua venuta non può che sortire ulteriore strazio e tormento. È lei che ha il potere supremo e assoluto su tutti i viventi, e non prevede consolazione. Ha valenze plurime ed è inaccessibile e indifferente, e questo ci porta ulteriore insofferenza. "Ma come, io devo morire? Proprio io?"
