These are the adventures of Gargantua and his son Pantagruel giants whose activities are described in sometimes bawdy always fun-loving manner. Their exploits are presented in the form of five interconnected novels all in this single volume. The stories are accompanied by the fantastic engraved illustrations of Gustave Doré. "Faithfully translated from the French" by unspecified translators. --- In handsome three-quarter burgundy Morocco with red/gold/blue/cream marbled paper covering and endpapers. Undated but possibly published c.1910s-1930s. --- A well-preserved tightly-bound copy though with inked gift inscription to front flyleaf a little age-toning to leaves an occasional penciling or spot of soiling and very slight rubbing to edges of paper covers.
