An attractive copy of Victor Hugo's poem in which he denounces war and its human consequences. Published in French. Best-known for Les Misérables and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame Victor Hugo is also renowned for his poetry collections. First published in a collection called Les Orientales the poem stages a discussion with a child survivor off the massacre of Chios committed by the Ottoman Empire in 1822. With a book binder's sticker to the front pastedown. The volume was bound by Paris-based binders H. Lilie. In a black quarter calf binding over patterned boards. Externally generally smart.
