Dom Bernard Audebert, né à Belac, fit ses études chez les Jésuites de Limoges, puis à l'abbaye Saint-Augustin de Limoges et à l'abbaye de Noaillé, où il fut ordonné. Il devint par la suite le supérieur de plusieurs monastères, dont celui de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Devenu ensuite l'assistant du Général de sa congrégation, il deviendra lui-même général de 1660 à 1672. Le manuscrit orignal de ses mémoires est conservé à la Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
