This book is very smart and clean vi 138 pages including index. 10 full page black & white plates plus 2 double page maps and numerous engraved embellishments in the text. The Preface begins "The following reminiscences have been compiled from a Journal kept by me while serving in the Baltic Fleet supplemented by recollections which had not and never can fade from my memory ---". The book is printed 40 years after the event and the author states "After the lapse of 40 years I am able to write of these matters as well as to mention shipmates by name in a way impossible for the first decade or two following the events described ---". The author sums up his preface with "This book is only for my family and friends to whom I feel it will be acceptable --". It has 14 Chapter headings and an Appendix.
