Poortvliet, Rien
DUTCH TREAT the Artist's Life Written and Painted By Himself
NY: Harry N Abrams 1981. USA Presumed First American eidtion. Owner's 6 woed inscription to cornr of end paper no other markings Fine in Neaar Fine dust jacket. Green boards illus end papers no page numbers about 200 pages the book is filled with remarkable colour illustrations by the artist. Being a plasterer's son from Schiedam making a living as an artist did not seem an option for Rien Poortvliet. His parents were strict followers of the Dutch Reformed Church and were opposed to the idea of their oldest son going to an art academy. Rien's aptitude for drawing showed early on. After primary education the young Rien worked at an ad agency where he could make some use of his talent. Poortvliet saw himself as a storyteller in drawings. His drawings told the tale and at most he added a short caption. He died in 1995. Poortvliet found recognition when Prince Bernhard opened the Rien Poortvliet Museum in 1992. A heavy book. 3.5 JM HOJ 301/6. 1st. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. 4to - over 9¾" - 12". Harry N Abrams Hardcover

Porciani Franca
Cavour prima di Cavour. La giovinezza fra studi, amori e agricoltura
ril.

Porsche, Ferry; with John Bentley
We at Porsche: The Autobiography of Dr. Ing. h.c. Ferry Porsche with John Bentley
Garden City New York: Doubleday & Company Inc 1976. PHOTOS UPON REQUEST. 1976. First Printing with "First Edition" so stated on the copyright page. Very Good condition in a bright and shiny Good dust jacket. The jacket is price clipped with sun fading to the red lettering but NOT the black lettering on the spine only. Small chips and closed tears have been reinforced with clear tape on the jacket's blank side. NOT a library discard. Corners are NOT bumped. Previous owner's name on the front free endpaper. All other pages are crisp clean and unmarked. Well illustrated with 40 pages of b/w photos and auto and tank design drawings. Index. Bound in the original reddish-orange boards with gilt-stamped black cloth spine. Complete with dust jacket. From a 2011 review by G. Young: "As an enthusiast of the Volkswagen Beetle I found this autobiography fascinating because even though Ferry Porsche's father Ferdinand and his staff created designed and tested the prototypes and final versions of the Beetle his son Ferry was there to witness and participate in all of that firsthand. To my knowledge Ferdinand Porsche never wrote an autobiography so what his son shares is as close to the VW facts as we are going to get. Furthermore Ferry was fully involved in the testing and later development of the Beetle and also the design and development of VW related wartime vehicles such as the Kubelwagen and the Schwimmwagen as well as various German tanks. Father and son worked closely together on many projects in prewar Germany as well as during wartime. His take on Hitler and the Nazi party members and their inevitable march to defeat is most fascinating as it is all firsthand - He was there. Very interesting.". First Edition so stated. Hardcover. Very Good condition/Good dust jacket. Illus. by NOT a library discard. 8vo. xix 290pp. 40 plates. Great Packaging Fast Shipping. Doubleday & Company, Inc Hardcover
