‎Lincoln Centennial Association Addresses Delivered at the Annual Banquet Held at Springfield Illinois February Eleven Nineteen Hundred and Eleven Commemorating the One Hundred and Second Anniversary of the Birth of Abraham Lincoln‎

‎Springfield: The Lincoln Centennial Association 1911. Hardcover. Small 4to. Limp brown suede. 40pp xv. Frontispiece 7 full-page sepia-tone portraits. Very good. Faint edgewear only to yapped edges else internally near fine. Large "Lincoln Centennial Association" themed bookplate on front flyleaf not filled in. Program of the third annual banquet of this association printed by the Roycrofters. Reverend Thomas D. Logan introduces J. Otis Humphrey and other speakers -- including President William Howard Taft. A quite nice copy of a delicate booklet whose binding often deteriorates badly. Not the usual garnet or burgundy color seen this copy also features more than the usual four sepia-tone portraits. Suede doesn't age particularly well and suede yapped edges fare even worse - making this nice copy exceptionally above average. MONAGHAN 1993. The Lincoln Centennial Association hardcover‎

‎Abraham Lincoln: His Life in Illinois -- Being Year by Year Incidents from 1830 to 1865‎

‎New York: M. Barrows and Company 1940. Hardcover. Small 4to. Tan cloth. vii 64pp. Frontispiece illustrations. Very good. A tight nice first edition. Ex-"Lincoln College Library / Lincolniana" copy the sole marking being this light inkstamp on rear pastedown -- if it's gotta be ex-library at least it's appropriate. An "Appreciation" is provided by Lincoln Fellowship of Southern California president Ralph G. Lindstrom -- which explains the nice autograph addition to this copy: Tipped to front pastedown is a nice Typed Letter Signed from Lindstrom 1p 5½" X 8½" Los Angeles CA 17 December 1948. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates 1914-93 noted Lincoln/Civil War researcher. On "University Club of Los Angeles" letterhead the noted Lincoln scholar and author sends "the happiest of Christmas Greetings and good wishes for the New Year to you and yours. Delightful and plentiful full-page sepia-tone illustrations all depict scenes from the then-just-released film "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" showing Raymond Massey as Lincoln Ruth Gordon as Mary and so on. Binding a bit edgeworn and lightly soiled with 2" near spine center quite rubbed though internally near fine. A tight nice first edition of this uncommon study of Lincoln's abstinence from spirituous beverages bearing on front pastedown the bookplate of the Illinois Commandery of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States and on facing front flyleaf an appropriate non-authorial gift inscription in black ink: "July 1943. / For the Abraham Lincoln / School -- its faculty and / students -- / May they even as Lincoln / himself find their love of / liberty exceeded by nothing / but their loathing for / liquor -- / Earnestly yours / Rev. J. Cavanagh Diggles 'A.A.' / Rev. J. 'Toots' Couroy 'A.A.'" ‎Fort Wayne IN: The Lincoln National Life Foundation 1932. Hardcover. Small 4to. Tan cloth spine with paper label and brown paper over boards with paper label. 93pp. Color frontispiece illustrations. Very good. Mild binding edgewear mainly corners with spine label darkened though internally fine and pristine. A lovely and tight first edition of this handsome R.R. Donnelley & Sons production issued in conjunction with the unveiling of this statue in Fort Wayne Indiana by the noted American sculptor 1885-1966. This handsome copy bears a choice photograph addition: Tipped to the inner flyleaf is a fine original likely sole surviving print of an 8" X 10" glossy black-and-white photograph of a smiling Manship alongside a small-scale version of his equestrian statue of Grant Ulysses S. Grant with Bruce Catton 1899-1978 admiring it from one side and Civil War authority/radio broadcasting innovator Carl Haverlin 1899-1985 doing the same from the other side; when the full-size version surrounded by soldiers hoisting cannons was cast in 1922 it cost $250000 making it the most expensive statue in the United States. This small casting was apparently made during the Civil War centennial circa 1960 for the interior of Grant's Tomb. Haverlin served as president of music licensing pioner BMI Broadcast Music Inc. and the photographer who took this image Hy Reiter served with BMI's publicity and promotion department.
