Boyle was an Anglo-Irish natural philosopher chemist physicist alchemist and inventor largely regarded today as the first modern chemist and one of the pioneers of modern experimental scientific method. He is best known for Boyle's law which describes the inversely proportional relationship between the absolute pressure and volume of a gas if the temperature is kept constant within a closed system. Volume I has been professionally rebound and has some exterior rub marks the other four volumes have their original leather bindings. The texts are in remarkably good condition with just a few minor marks; the leather bindings are worn and have some splitting along the spine edges; volume II has a torn flyleaf.
